Here's another stat....3 out of Leeds' 4 home games have seen attendances that are higher than the average attendance for the last 2 years. Without context those stats could be used as a positive thing. But obviously nobody on here would use stats alone without context to try and prove a point, positive or negative, would they???

Ouch indeed. I wonder if both clubs have a number of fans who follow both rugby and football (like me with Leeds) who decided to go to the games at Elland Road and the KC instead.

I think the Huddersfield one is a combination of football, weather and date. The previous year the fixture was on a Sunday afternoon where our attendances are significantly higher than other days. I'm not excusing it, just giving a logical explanation why.

Thats a good question at least were huddersfield are concerned.I believe the fans of the giants are now paying closer to the going rate to watch sl so maybe fans are having to choose now

I think that's true for a lot of fans at a number of clubs.....I speak from experience.

I didn't see the game....what was the turnout like from Hull fans? They usually travel in good numbers.

anthing between 500-1000 i would say, but its hard to judge on tv etc

It's not just Huddersfield attendances which are worrying. The 5 fixtures played in SL Round 7 so far have produced a total attendance of 44,454. The same 5 fixtures between the same teams last year produced a total attendance of 54,575 which is a percentage decrease of -18.55%.

Overall, SL attendances this year are currently down by over 10% for the same fixtures between the same teams.

SL 2013 - Total Attendance = 400,813/46 fixtures = Average 8,713
SL 2102 - Total Attendance = 445,695/46 fixtures = Average 9,689
% decrease = -10.07%

SmokeyTA's frequent and unsubstantiated boasts about SL attendances this year [i"being on course to set the 2nd best attendance levels in the history of the game"[/i are looking more and more foolish with each passing round of SL.

Worrying to who? Stats are great, but they don't always tell the full story. This really is a discussion for the back end of the season. If we are still this far behind then, then I will doth my cap to you. As it is, I'll get on with my life, enjoy my rugby, and let you lot get on with "worrying" about it.

It's more a case of recalling what the RFL actually do as opposed to what they are thinking. That would include a number of their own early season official announcements about SL attendances... like [url=http://www.wiganwarriors.com/WContent.aspx?id=6801&type=news[uHERE[/u[/url and [url=http://www.therfl.co.uk/news/article/24528/record-numbers-switching-on[uHERE[/u[/url for instance... something which the likes of SmokeyTA and now FarsleySteve believe is way too early and completely irrelevant unless it's the RFL conveying only positive messages about Super League whilst attempting to justify their six-figure salaries in some cases.

I think 45 thousand 'less paying spectators, is a big worry for sl.

The RFL haven't press-released a single syllable, word, sentence, article or expressed a single peep about SL attendances this year.

So you're criticising an organisation for using marketing tools to try and promote themselves in a positive light? Name me an organisation that wouldn't do exactly the same? Of course id like to see crowds going through the roof, what fan of the sport wouldn't? The sport, and the rfl, are far from perfect. But spending endless hours collating stats to counteract a statement that was made over 12 months ago, seems a little pointless if im being honest. Is it not possible that there might be a bigger picture scenario going on here that isn't just affecting rugby league, and heaven forbid, isn't the fault of the RFL?

Oh and we didn't have a paying sponsor either when that announcement was made, so maybe, just maybe, the announcement of a thriving competition was a pitch for some money? I cant imagine "were doing ok this year, but itll probably be rubbish again next year" would have them queuing up. And yes, i know it didn't work before you say it........
