| But there is still time for you to bring some more overseas players in to take the place of those leaving, I bet a pound to a penny with Newton gone back down under, an overseas player is signed to replace him.

Although we do still have a spare non-fed spot.
=#FF0000Possibly time for a thread split, maybe to our board...?
but if we assume O'Hara replaces Vella, and we either keep Fisher or replace him Withers, then add in Taulapapa that means 10. Newton leaves perhaps, but we could get Mickey Paea with that non-fed spot, still 10. Or Newton stays (seems increasingly unlikely, admittedly) - potentially 11.
I don't really believe in the quota. I'm happy to exploit the loopholes (as I'm sure some fans who don't like the salary cap have a more relaxed attitude about their club maybe 'stretching' it) - [iup to a point[/i.

| I do understand what your saying, I do believe that the RFL have got to be more strict with this overseas rule, like you said, you have 10, we have 5, but apparently ours is full I think, I really dont understand it.

Watts did 3 years at Rovers while eligible for the U-20s.
Murrell did one year, back when one year was enough.
Lovegrove got a dispensation - if we'd signed him at the start of 2007, rather than midway through the season, he wouldn't have required it.
Where a player hails from isn't relevant. I know some Rovers fans are guilty of mixing in club-trained and local-born players, and tbf, we shouldn't try to have it both ways. On the other hand we're still catching up.

It is complicated and inconsistent...
There are two quotas.
The original quota is about your passport. You can have 5 players that do not have an EU or Kolpak/Coutonou passport. Until the collapse of Crusaders there were no exemptions or dispensations to this rule. However lots of overseas players were entitled to EU or Kolpak/Coutounou passports... so the [iseperate[/i non-fed quota was introduced.
You can have 5 players who were hot trained by RFL-affiliated clubs, for 3 years, while eligible for under-20s rugby. Where they come from is not relevant - though it is unlikely you'll get many Aussies coming across at 18, a British player who comes late to the sport (eg via Union) would, in theory, be non-fed. Players here at the start of 2008 are exempt from this rule. As are Crusaders squad now. Plus the RFL retains the right to grant discretionary exemptions - eg Rhys Lovegrove and Aaron Heremaia.
Rovers currently have 9 overseas players.
Quota and non-fed - Clinton, Dobson, Green.
Quota only - Webster, Galea. (Both here at start of 2008, so not non-fed)
non-fed only - none... so two spare spots.
other - Vella, Fisher, Newton (EU passports and here at the start of 200icon_cool.gif, Lovegrove - dispensation.
We've announced two further signings of overseas players - O'Hara, who has a Crusaders exemption and Taulapapa who will take one of the spare non-fed spots but presumably has a Coutonou (Samoan) passport.

Quote The funniest thing is that HKR are being pinged more than a good golfball even though we have given those players above from Hull their SL breaks as well as bringing in players not required elsewhere such as Hall, Hodgeson, Hodgeson, Horne, Wheldon, Netherton, all of whom are Hull born.'"
Im not sure why Hull born is so relevant. I wouldnt care if they were playing for Wakefield, Quins, Leeds or HKR as long as they are playing RL.
Quote We then gave Watts and Murrell their second chances at SL level when they had lost their way and could have been lost to the game when they were classed as unwanted by their origional clubs (Leeds classed Murrell as not up to it and Watts was in real danger of shizzing it up the wall by all acccounts).'" Well done. Why not do it more.
Quote But we use what ever means we can find to bring jonny foreigner across at the cost of not giving brits a go obviously.'" Well you do. If you didnt you wouldnt have so many.
Quote Oh and please be aware that 14 players on the books of Hull KR are OOC at the end of 2012 of which 5 are none english.
Vella will be gone before the start of 2012 as will Fisher (Both exemptions) there is also serious talk that Newton will be gone and he is in that same catagory.
Joel Clinton is likely to be going home as well before 2012.
That will take us to 7 overseas players down from 10 in 2011.
I wonder when it is reduced what else you will find to moan about Smokey?
Firstly it was the state of NCP then you moved onto our overseas numbers what will be next will you suddenly take a disliking to a red and white colour scheme?'" You can hide behind a big scary smokey monster is out to get me standpoint if you want. It makes you look silly but you can do so if you want. 7 is too many. Especially when they are of the quality of Misi Taulapapa
When HKR have brought their numbers of overseas players down and when NCP is a quality stadium then I have no issue with them.

You think it takes some sort of psychic abilities to predict that there was a decent chance Ben Cockayne would again act like a nob and get himself fired? How many warnings did you need? It has nothing to do with Sheriff not being ready. If the HKR team don’t think he is ready then it is poor succession planning not have somebody else in place. It isn’t an excuse to go out and sign a 29 year old lower league overseas player
Quote So growth hormones and mystic meg it is , sorry our mistake. Have you been laying into Hull FC about how many juniors they are bringing through recently?'" Hardly a fair count is it? Using the same method I could claim Hull have 10, and have made room for 1 more by getting Heremaia a dispensation.
O'Hara is almost certainly coming in for Vella. I don't expect us to get Withers and keep Fisher - it'll be one or the other. After the signing of Taulapapa, I'd advocate bringing in a British hooker instead - if I could think of someone decent and available. Strong rumour Newton is leaving too.
Anyway you'll be pleased to know we've filled our quotas, so there'll be no more...
Non-EU/Coutonou: Green, Dobson, Clinton, Webster, Galea
Non-fed trained: Green, Dobson, Clinton, Taulapapa, Paea
Assuming Paea is confirmed - he sounds like the type of player we need.
