He gets smashed plenty in Super League too, it just doesn't seem to bother him. He's such a scrote that he hasn't got many muscles to damage, all bones, teeth and hair. He would do just fine in the NRL. It's not any tougher over there, it's just more consistent.

Pretty sure he is not signed by an NRL Club (Penrith)
He is on performance/match payments, currently with the Windsor Wolves.
The Wolves are a feeder Club for Penrith Panthers.

I simply can’t understand why anybody can make these ‘Tomkins is not big enough for the NRL’ comments – once again, how come 5ft 9in, 12st Brett Hodgson can play State of Origin and yet Tomkins is not big enough for the NRL?

Maybe they are remembering that most English players are underachievers.
England/GB have won nothing of any worth for four decades.
Some people do not live that long.
I hope Tomkins moves to the NRL, his game plan of a big step, a niggle and play for penalties will go down a treat.
Shallow as a puddle.
Found out and sorted before the season gets half way through.

Oh please, change the record
We have seen plenty of English players go to Australia and be successful
Australians were even questioning whether the great Ellery Hanley could make it in over there – my favourite piece of commentary of all time was from Hanley’s first game for Balmain “Hanley is running cross field, he’ll not get away with that against Australian defences. Oh, he’s scored”

We ARE a second tier league. There's no getting round it and that's why, combined with the better quality of lifestyle you get, the best English players want to go out there to play in the NRL

When was that 23 years ago?
The game has moved on a little since then.
Who has done well from England in the last few years?
Ellis and Burgess, they have both been pumped up massively by their Clubs and the media looking for an angle.
Ellis scored has scored 6 tries in 2 1/2 seasons with Wests, as a player that has played Centre that is an average record.
He has become injury prone.
Sam Burgess is off the field more than on. his nickname is sicknote.

Yes they've done nothing at all, For starters burgess is 22 and he was so pumped up he played a prop for the NRL all stars but that was nothing to do with his rugby league ability it was because of the media. And Tim sheens I guy who knows nothing about RL and is influenced by the media was quoted saying Ellis was the best buy the club and has had and was also put in the inaugural team for 2 years in a row. He was also named Tigers player of the year 2 years in a row and nominated for the golden boot.
The achievements these two lads had achieved have not been because of the media or being pumped up by their clubs they have been quality when they have played in the NRL.
You clearly haven't watched these lads play, Ellis is coming towards the end of his career which is why he will become more injury prone, whilst burgess puts his body on the line for his team in every tackle and will attempt to smash anybody no matter how big they are.
You can post about these players when you actually watch Aussie RL.

| he's of the mindset that any "pom" that goes out there has to be extra, extra special or he won't make it...forgetting that theres some very poor aussies playing in the NRL..some even get origin jumpers like carl webb and then they tell you that all the aussies in SL are all has beens...yet all of em would walk back into any NRL team..some even back into origin...

| I doubt you could pick a squad of 25 English players and have them finish top 6 in NRL, that's how far behind we are sadly.Thing with Tomkins is he is rated as the best in the country, compared to the top 2 or 3 NRL fullbacks he isn't close, that is where the gap is.

But under Australian conditions and coaching they might be, and Tomkins would certainly improve if he lived long enough to get rid of his petty niggle.
I was in Australia at the time of the 4 nations and found the comments of the Aussie TV pundits interesting. They were initially very scathing re superleague, I think the term they used was "like watching park football". But after generally rubbishing English rugby and ripping most (but not all) of the players apart, they became constructive. Their main gripe seemed to be about our complete lack of understanding of defensive patterns and our inability to cope with an organised attack. The consensus seemed to be we should send 20 or 30 of our best youngsters to Aus to get some decent coaching. Problem is, we might not get them back.

tim sheens said that about gareth ellis.....3week later he was eating his words
in fact jonesy mentioned the the fact that the NRL has cherry picked our players...gareth ellis was seen as abit of a gamble by the west fans... despite the fact he'd been named in the world 13 3 or 4 years on the trot

indeed...jack reed the english born brisbane has committed himself to QLD & australia...chances of him getting either jumper are very slim though but hey ho it's his choice

Yes, I remember the comments.
In the 4 nations they picked out, for example, Ryan Atkins as a fine athlete who could tackle but had no positional awareness.
I seem to remember they rated Roby and Graham quite highly.
