| This thread is about Toulouse, the team that is exciting the rugby league world with its dynamic performance in the Championship.
Here where I sit in Kiev today, the Ukrainian people can talk about little else. It is amazing to most that a team of mostly eager French novices, mixed with a handful of Australian and PNG aces, can make second place in the Championship in its first year.
With a week off Toulouse can now rest and prepare to secure second place for the remainder of the regular season, and then the daunting task of making a powerful impact on the Middle 8s, which lies not so far ahead. The key question will be can terrific Toulouse outplay witless Widnes, lowly Leigh, helpless Huddersfield, and whoever the fourth Super League team will be (woeful Wakefield?) in the Middle 8s.

I am not now, nor have I ever been, in Chorley.
When I am not in Carcassonne I am in Toulouse, Kiev, or one of the other great rugby league cities of the western world.
But let's not talk about me. Let's talk about Toulouse, one of the most exciting enterprises in contemporary rugby league.

Rinat Akhmetov. Remember that name. The President and owner of Shakhtar Donetsk is the key to the success of rugby league in Ukraine

Why not start a thread on the board named Toulouse??

Not really, rovers played a lot of reserves at Toulouse, and only then could Toulouse win by 8.

| Their (i.e. TO's) greatest difficulty will be reaching the MPG. In a one off, anything could happen. Who's to say that Rovers or any other possible opponent won't be similarly depleted through injury?

| My dream is that hopeful Hull KR and terrific Toulouse can both beat witless Widnes and lowly Leigh and thereby replace those two teams in Super League.
It may turn out that hopeless Hudderfield, having been beaten in the Challenge Cup by swindling Swinton, could be worse than the other Super League stragglers, and lose its Super League place. I would be disappointed if that happened because the city of Huddersfield was the founding location of our game, and the club has a good stadium.
But the most important thing for the good of the game is that terrific Toulouse gets promoted to Super League, thereby giving more French players a shot at professional rugby league, and creating a local derby with Catalans. It will be hard this year, because the team is full of young inexperienced French novices. Next year that team will surely be stronger because of its 2017 experience, but next year it will be competing with the titanic Toronto Wolfpack, which will be the favourite for promotion to Super League. On the other hand it is just as likely that two teams could get promoted next year as it is this year.

Jean, much a I enjoy some of your expansionist banter (well sometimes), there wont be two clubs promoted this season, next season or, the season after.
however, what may happen within the next few years is, a return to franchising/licensing and that could allow Toulouse, Toronto and KR to compete in the top flight.
I've said previously that Big Nige and the other big boys from the RFL should be going along to Sky and getting a substantial increase in funding from them for having an expanded SL competition, which would allow for more clubs in the top flight AND increase revenue for all clubs.
I dont see the current structure being fit for purpose, if we are trying to expand the game.
There is still a real possibility of Catalan dropping into the middle 8's and that may be enough to make The RFL believe that the current structure isn't delivering whet they want.

What with Mr Putin on the border? Or the issues with their government?

Good grief, has this person reached double figures in age yet. I hope this is a poor attempt at poetic licence as it would get a E- if I were marking it. (Subjunctive, JC)
P.S. I remember how you forecast how Albert Kelly would propel HKR to SL super-status; that went well didn't it?
