Just watch the four nations from last season. Tomkins was trying to link up round the back, he was getting into the positions but the backs were just not up to it.

This year he has had service from probably the two most experience half backs in super league in Deacon and Finch. He also has Centres like Carmont and Wingers like Richards to link up with. He just doesn't have that playing for England.

If he is going to shine for England I think it will have to be some individual effort.

I don't think Edwards would have looked all that great in this England team under this coach. Schofield would have looked poor as well. Those two players played in some of the best GB sides but Tomkins will play in one of the worst.

If McNamara has some sense he will train and coach the players to give service to Tomkins, Roby and Briscoe. They are our biggest hope of breaking through the aussies IMO. We MUST play deep and get Tomkins into space from FB and then from the QPTB he creates Roby can cause havoc.

No doubt the blind rugby fans will blame Tomkins if he struggles to break down an aussie defence on his own though.

So basically he's going to just not be THAT good.

I think Mcbanana knows Tomkins is the key to his backs. If he is a freak and a great talent then he really should be able to produce something, even if it's not consistent.

I'll just find it all a little underwhelming after tomkins this year has been hyped as world class etc etc..

Absolutelty bang on. This Wigan team are brilliantly coached to lean on the rules and create space for the most exciting back England have produced in a long time. The Quins fans that for some reason have a grudge against him and the Saints fans just have to concede that the humbles are the best team at the moment, and that's hard for a Leyther to say. We can all moan about lying on and Wigans tactics, but our own teams arn't exactly angels either.

And where have I slated Wigan?

Unbelievable isn't it! Why some fans can't accept that Wigan are the best team at the moment i'll never know.

And thats why hes the stand out player at wigan because of the players around him, wigan as a whole is the real deal in superleague, but as before we big up players for the internationals and they end up always falling short, its something that sadly we have'nt learned to deal with in 20 years.

Love these threads after a thumping Wigan win. The board may actually go into meltdown should we win against Leeds next week on dodgy looking pass!

Speaking of myths -

wigans slowing the play down, must of been watching the wrong game me as it was bradfot who did most of the lying on, i thought the referee had a good game last night, would like to no the stats but is that the first game on telly where a ref has not used the vidoe ref and had the balls to make a decision him self.

Brilliant thread. Saddened and Gary Numan's posts are just hilarious. Wigan are allegedly a "myth" and "horrible to watch".

The truth is that while Wigan are a superb defensive side they are capable of scoring breathtaking tries from anywhere on the field. In Sam Tomkins,a legend in the making, we have a player who is more exciting to watch than many sides in SL!
