| Quote ="wire quin"Watch the soccer on Sky tomorrow
Flick over to Sky RU internationals today
Watch the Ashes cricket in 3 weeks time
Watch the F1 on the beeb or sky
Take them as barometers of commentary excellence then flick back to Vossy and Nobby. See if you see any difference.
I wonder if Gary Neville will make reference to Macari's chippy at OT, or Stuart Barnes the William Webb Ellis Spoons in Twickers, or Bob Willis the amature cricket clubs in Perth or Coultard local tyre suppliers in Abu Dhabi....
Are you starting to see how these cheap commentators pull the game down inadvertently whilst trying to satisfy the humour of a few pit workers in the north'"
What a halfwit you are. Just because you enjoy a certain style of commentary doesn't mean it's commentary excellence.
Sky RU commentary? The same Sky RU commentary despised by rugby union fans in England and around the world?
Fuck me. Is Stuart Barnes still part of their team? Get over yourself you boring pleb.

Hi Ho Hi Ho down the pit we go......
One day we will realise its the games parochialism that's holding it back.
That's why we have global brands such as Foxy Bingo etc as our sponsors.

| Quote ="Ferocious Aardvark"Did they? You noted each and every bag, analysed, classified and recorded it, and are now speaking from your logs?
You really are a muppet, all the biggest games are on BBC, they wouldn't have covered every game so the fact that Premier does, and that it is available free millions of homes, is just icing on the cake. But you are so silly, you probably do think if they hadn't given it to Premier, Beeb or ITV would be televising it all.
Fook me, and now you know how many subscribers Premier have! We're supposed to believe they share their commercial secrets with you?
.. yep, especially for sing on your bonfire...
Really? So, you ALSO know how many Virgin customers have watched and will watch the games!
What is this "reality" of which you speak? Is that on a hotline-to-Branson basis, or a hotline to Mystic Meg basis? "Reality" my arrse! You just [ihope[/i no Virgin viewers will tune in; that isn't the same thing as "reality" - [iof course[/i it will make a difference, you buffoon!
a) Premier televising it as opposed to nobody televising it makes a stonking great difference, ie from Zero to the number who watch it on Premier!
b) Virgin adding the coverage makes another big difference, adding those who have Virgin but not access to Premier!
But you know, the best thing about it all is how much the success of all aspects has got you foaming at the mouth.
'"
BARB are where the fact lie.....6,500 subscribers is what Premier declare themselves and that was before they lost conference wendyball and whilst the RLWC is brilliant, it is generally RL fans that think so......check out the Sunday papers for a reality check if needed.

| Quote ="johnhols"What i like about the coverage is that it doesn't accentuate the negative points during a game. On Sky's coverage whenever a try is scored they always repeat any errors leading up to a try and ignore the skill involved in scoring.
There were a number of incidents in last night's game where on Sky they would have been endless repeating themselves trying to make a point, Premier's commentators get on with the job and make it pleasing to listen too.
I now look forward to the commentary rather than reach for the mute button.'"
that's just what I said during the NZ-PNG game, that they don't spend endless minutes arguing and debating something that happened 5 minutes previously and showing endless replays, they just get on with calling the game which is how it should be done imo.
sky commentary is fine until they all start jabbering away over the top of each other all trying to have their say.
voss, noble and halligan make a point, usually humorous, and move on back to whats happening on the field.
I have enjoyed their commentary more than eddie and stevo because they just call the game rather than spending half the game debating stuff.

| Wire Quin, has it occurred to you that if the commentary is also used on broadcasts to Oz/NZ that Voss might want to convey to the viewing audience things about culture/society in another country?

May I just point out that the commentaries are worldwide so the information is not just for parochial audiences.

| They're brilliant, end of. Fans love hearing back stories about Hunslet and Workington. Gives the tournament depth and personality.
Favourite Vossy line so far?

| Listening to Voss is like a breath of fresh air compared to the usual guff, not sure how he’d go week in, week out, year in…
Whilst Noble is obviously knowledgeable, his constant bigging up of Chase has become a little irksome.

| Quote ="t-r-i-n-i-t-y"Sky's cricket commentary, and the BBC's on Test Match Special, to me, is the best out there. Everything else lags behind. Voss (and Noble) have brought a warmth to the commentary which adds a little more colour to the action. Can't see any negatives in it.'"
To be fair, Cricket lends itself to the Henry Blofeld/Bumble commentary style of chatting inane nonsense - The actual action is so stop-start that it needs the comedic element to keep the listener/viewer interested.
As for sport like ours, it doesn't need jokes, anecdotes and wacky characters, it needs an actual commentary - A description of the action has it unfurls, with a minimal analysis to guide the viewer along.... For me, the guy on the BBC (Dave Woods?) does a decent job, its just a shame he has Jiffy with his incoherent rubbish beside him - Best for me would be Shaun McRae or John Kear as analysts, who are both intelligent guys, and who importantly know when to shut up and let the commentator do his job.

No, because he wouldn't be having a chicken roll in the 3 Pigeons pub every game.

Nice to hear him enjoying the culinary delights of the UK. Plus it will be good for local business. Fair play to the bloke.
I hope he writes a book about his experiences in the pubs around the UK once the World Cup is over. I'd buy it.
