a few things,

1) why does the SC come into it? according to you Celtic have been breaking it anway so why couldnt they be on player visas, these players were being paid more than the £150k (together) so why couldnt they get player visas?

2) the rfls part is irrelevant, if there are 13 clubs with players on the same visas, there are 13 clubs with players on the same visas and the question as to what the difference between them and 6 celtic players needs to be answered (though it seems you have decided you already know the answer)

3) 13 clubs have used this loophole, 13 clubs had players on the same visas, the rfl have allowed 13 clubs to use the same loophole

1) By being on an amateur Visa, what is to stop the club claiming they are amateur players being paid instead by Dekor?

2) The RFL's part isn't irrelevant but may not be specific just to the Celtic Crusaders if a few clubs have used this loophole. They have allowed Visa applications to be used that stated that those players were amateur whilst knowing that those players weren't.

As Andrew Kirchin pointed out the person involved with this is usually extremely diligent with this sort of thing.

It is a clear attempt to deflect criticism of the Crusaders and the RFL

But it is better for the RFL to 'dirty the waters '

13 Other clubs may well have had a player or 2 still contracted after 2005 on these visa's but they were allowed to remain with the knowledge of the RFL and more importantly the UKBA , that is the difference

If it could be proved that it was all part of some 'get Crusaders into SL' fiasco then yes of course they should walk.

A club wouldnt sign a player unless they had their visa sorted.


The players....well geez, you cant enter Britain without a visa and when you apply it is VERY clear what you can and can not do under the visa you have applied for.


As for the RFL itself, look, by the time it reaches them and they have to register a player, Im guessing they dont do huge visa checks. Thats fair enough.

LF - I'd agree if this were any other team, but I would have expected VERY close oversight of the Crusaders once they were introduced to SL. having said that this is a somehwat odd case, with the visa issues not relating to this season at all but rather to prior years.

Quite possibly , I'd be happy to see these other 13 clubs ' named and shamed '

However if it is the case that the governing body of a sport has purposely bent the rules of the land , and possibly their own operating rules to artificially effect where clubs finished in their competition do you think the people with that knowledge should be removed from their positions ?

lets take RL back to winter.

The RFL helped to drew up the new visa rules for RL players & coaches, in consultation with the home office a couple of years ago, along with the players trade union and other interested parties. Cock-up seems rather more likely than conspiracy here...

I remember a discussion on another board last year along the lines of how on earth did they get visas for those players, so I do think someone must have known about it?

It will be interesting to see if the UKBA move on to club (not county) cricket, where there are large numbers of overseas "pros" playing every weekend.

Feel sorry for the affected players, but find it pretty hard to believe that they weren't aware of the fact that they were not legally allowed to work full-time in this country. A sensible post from leaguefreak for the first time in some years?
