I thought they had given up on that ambition by appointing Keiron Purtill.

Yes he was, he signed a contract hours before asking to leave. Thankfully for him the club were kind enough to accept his reasons.

He was making those tweets having a bit of fun hours before Broncos had tweeted to say they were making an announcement at 12pm last Monday. Unfortunately for Jarrod and his family circumstances changed dramatically that morning forcing him to ask Broncos to release him again and make his tweets look rather silly. He was just having a bit of fun with fans whilst thinking in a few hours he would actually be officially a Broncos player again.

I think Gelling has already moved on. Think he's Catalan bound. Can't see Inu sticking around to play champ rugby either.

Maybe it just shows where Wigan are at financially. Mentioned before on the most astute owner thread that Wigan as a club make substantial losses year on year whilst others are making profits. Rivals are making marquee signings this off season and they’re signing Sammut.

'"
Just read an interview by him a few days ago and he does indeed live up here in Cleckheaton and as he says -
Quote “Being off-contract at the end of the season, my family had moved back up north to Cleckheaton to be around their family and have support there, so I was living alone for the last four months from June.
“I was travelling back and forth from London to Cleck. I thought it was manageable but it got to a point where enough is enough and I had to bite the bullet. I didn’t want to leave London, but for the best for my family I said I had to go home.”'"
Saying that I'm massively surprised Wigan have brought him in and then secondly he takes up a quota spot. He'll be 32 next season and has been playing in the lower league for several years and tbh even when he was in SL was a really inconsistent player as we saw at Trinity, although looked a better player at Bradford. Some Trinity fans may say he wasn't given enough chances in the halves but that whole farce with him not wanting to play against Bradford etc then he got what he deserved and was loaned out. Plus who can forget his performance in that hammering against Wire, although no one came out of that match looking good - it was like he went out of his way to show he didn't want to play, which to say at the time he was one of the more experienced and skilled players in the team was appalling, to say the least. Obviously, Wire was far the better team but at least some of the lads tried, not him.
If he'd have knuckled down and actually took the advice from various Coaches on board during his career, instead of being such a moody maverick, he'd be remembered as a quality import imo
Maybe Wigan will get something out of him and no doubt there will be flashes of brilliance but I won't hold my breath.

| Come on folks, give the guy a break. He was outstanding in the London team last season, and played a big part in their promotion. He would have been a SL player for the Broncos this season, but family circumstances prevented this. I certainly don't begrudge him a tilt at SL - I reckon he's earned it!

| Heis exempt from the quota as part of the deal when Crusaders went bust. He has not walked out on the Broncos - he was out of contract and didn’t agree the terms offered. Without him Broncos would not be in Super League for 2019. I wish him and his family all the very best

So did I, thought it was so they could get a gig after the fall out of the Crusaders. didn't think it was a career exception.

If I remember it correctly, it was a short term exemption for all crusaders players to count off the quota. Similar happened a few years ago when the bulls got into trouble (again!) and our players were allowed to go find alternate employers without counting on the caps.
However, Sammut qualifies for an EU passport (Maltese I believe) making him exempt from the overseas quotas. Perhaps this is still the case

Yeah, that's how I remember it all but Sammut would also count as non-fed trained wouldn't he even with his EU status. Whether it's overseas or Non fed they have to add up to 7, can't remember the split you're allowed of each.

Yep, unless he still gets the exemption from all those years ago, Sammut will be non-fed trained.

He was OK with us but not really any better than Ben Jeffries who was his backup at the time (2012). He's far too inconsistent for a big club like Wigan. It's like a Dennis Moran signing.

It could be worse Moran was high scoring in SL when Wigan took him from London, JS has been OK in the division below for the past 6 years!
