It’s not out of the realms of possibility that the Government may have been purposefully slow in “locking down” the country compared to others in order for the virus to cull the population.

Why else would they keep airports open for weeks after the virus spread to Italy with no checks or immediate self isolation?

I have also yet to see the country in official lockdown - I have not see that word used by any Government official.

The Government’s handling of this pandemic has been so tragically pathetic that it’s bordering on suspicious.

You even mention that the Govt have slowed lockdown down!

It took us what three weeks after Italy to “lockdown”. If that’s not being slow I don’t know what is.

It's an understanding that people will only put up with being in lockdown for so long, so delaying the start of it meant that when the peak started to hit that (most) people were prepared to adhere to the rules.
Two weeks into lockdown there was very little traffic on the roads by us, when we went out for our daily walk we could have walked down the main road without risking encountering traffic. Two weeks later and every day that I go out for a walk, or a bike ride there is more traffic back on the roads, which inevitably means more people flaunting the rules on lockdown.
Start lockdown 3 weeks earlier and just imagine how many people would now be making that decision to venture back out again. It's human nature to not want to be restrained in our activities. Ask yourself how desperate were you to get out of the house after 1 week, after 3 weeks, how desperate will you be in another 3 weeks time????

I'm not backing the Government on their decisions but I do understand them.

ITS NOT A LOCK DOWN

It's interesting that Sweden have taken a completely different approach to most of the rest of the world and their experts believe that it is we (the UK and most of the rest) that have got this wrong.
Although their death rate is a little higher, they suggest that it will actually fall over time, whereas we may have a second "spike" when restrictions begin to lift.
They do have some social distancing and advise vulnerable people to stay indoors but, they are still working, able to go out shopping or for a meal etc. Plus, they wont have decades of austerity and /or tax rises when the virus eventually is under control.
I dont know if they are right but, they certainly think they are.

I feel like people are being a bit desensitised the news now but comments like yours brings it home again. It's a rel threat and we need to take care and follow the guidelines.

I came to work this morning to find that one of my team - a young lad of only 24 - had taken his own life over the w/e; I'm devastated, for him and his family and the people around him. Perhaps the emotional cost of this situation will only reveal itself in the months and years that follow - but for now, if you know someone who is emotionally fragile, maybe check that they're ok. They might not be.

Well it appears so but at least the UK is recording deaths in all settings and where Corona is suspected other countries are not doing that yet and it will take time for them to catch up.

Also, noticed that Russia apparently have just over 1100 deaths - less than 1% of those diagnosed.... Seems rather low when you compare other countries - I'm sure that now our figures are correct and must doubt that other countries are.

However, any death from this awful virus is one too many.

Expect that to rise to around 40k, with the amount of cases percentage wise we have around 15% of deaths so far it's horrifying

What I can’t get my head around is we are an island, how the hell can we have a massively higher fatality rate than an European land locked country, we must have got it wrong big style somewhere along the line.

It is a disgrace Lampyboy, so why not stop buying from China. They are the disgrace that caused it. I'm sure Corbyn and Abbott would have been sensational in response of the crisis. It's not perfect but at least Donald Trump isn't involved.
