Where are Salford getting the money from to sign all these players? That must be 7 or 8 senior players they have signed for next season?

Are they perhaps just loading up with contracts to bolster their legal claim against SL when they are evicted next year?

Got the smallest salary cap budget in the league this year (and last year). With the stadium finally moving forward, now presumably using more of the budget that wasn't used before.

Add that to the fact we are releasing several players (Swain, Big Phil etc) plus one of our highest earners Alker will be moving on as coach will release up funds as its rumoured he's taking a significant paycut to stay with the club.

We'll probably keep littler though, can't get rid of the bugger!

Think its 5 signed so far, and one of them being Matty Smith who was on loan this year anyway. Patten, Wild, Anderson, and Nero being the other 4. Feka hasn't been confirmed by the club but does look likely given the amount of press attention.

As for the money, no fees are being paid and quite a few of the current squad did not have contracts extending into next year...many are going out of the door - announced already is Alker (to become a non-playing full time coach), Leuluai (off to France), Swain (off to France), Talau (retiring). I think Littler, Fitzpatrick, Sibbit and Jeremy Smith may be under threat as their contracts run out. We've probably had one of the lowest wage bills in the league to date and it will be going up, but not massively given that we will probably lose as many players as we bring in. Expect a few more movements.

Perhaps their accountants' arithmetic skils are as bad as yours; Patten + Anderson + Wild + Nero = 4. Also having the lowest salary spend in SL coupled with losing some of the bigger earners from the wage bill at the end of the year (eg Alker & Talau) helps.

I wonder if Stephen Wild ever regrets turning down the chance to sign for Saints a couple of years ago.

Menzies not being offered a new contract by Bradford. Maybe Mr Wilkinson will consider reaching for his cheque book again?

We've not signed Feka yet, but we've definitely signed Wild, and we're apparently set to sign Feka and Leo-Latu, and by the way Malc and J.Smith probably our two biggest earners before Holdsworth signed the new deal are likely to going, well Malc definitely is, J.Smith looks like hes on his way and we're getting rid of quite a few more, Talau must of been on a bit?

Stephen Wild's a good signing though.

It's not 100 % yet, but he hasn't been offered one and is unlikely to get one.


I think the reason (or as far as we can guess) is that we are fairly strong in the second row already (plus we've been linked with Elima) and there are areas of the squad (SO, Centre) which need strengthening far more than SR. We may need Menzies' quota spot for this. The incoming player will have to be top quality though to justify losing Menzies.

Chris Flannery and Francis Meli are going in the Austin Princess Mick Potter is using to relocate to Bradford.

Meli will be off quota anyway won't he?

But if we are getting Flannery to replace Menzies I'll be extremely disappointed.

Why is the signing of Wild a less damning indictment of Salford's youth set-up than Anderdson or Feka? Established players, wherever they come from, limit opportunities for youngsters. Bringing in established foreigners rather than [uestablished[/u Brits reflects more on recent British RL youth development as a whole, rather than Salford's in particular.
