I didn't need to be. All I need to be able to do is to remember his comments after Ganson handed the MM derby to you on a plate last season.

| In all honesty - I believe that Justin will probably regret his rant .... I know I can remember a few choice words I have come out with in the course of work - he did not reprise those comments in the Harry Poole Bar after the match and so definitely had cooled off somewhat ...... we move on ..... hope you continue your show of form ....hope we don' meet you in the Challenge Cup and will look forward to visiting you .... and on that note I am retiring for my beauty sleep ..... ![Wink icon_wink.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_wink.gif)

| If Morgan is referring to Thaler's lax handling of the play the ball, he has a point.

Its not about his 'moaning' as you put it, but the paying public getting a decent service from referees, I can live with a defeat, in fact if we had any other ref today we would have lost, but this bloke Thaler is far to consistantly rubbish, today was a classic case of how not to referee when teaching new officials.

| Having not seen the game, I can't pass comment on the performance of Ben Thaler - but what I will say is this. I am sick of reading on here about how referees are causing defeats, how everything is their fault rather than, say a better team winning, mistakes by a player, poor gameplay by a coach.
The RFL should start handing out fines and/or point deductions for criticism of match officials, that would stop the endless whining soon enough.

| They also pay to see a decent performance from the players too
How many passes did Thaler knock on, or put forward? How many kicks did he miss time, how many penalties didnt find touch, how long did he lay on in the tackle, or stray offside? How many tackles did he miss?
When teams put in flawless performance, then they can gripe about the ref.

| Whether or not Morgan is right if this was football he would be charged with bringing the game into disrepute. I would imagine that he will be summoned to the RFL to explain his comments and possibly face some sort of action.

| A load of, er, 'fans' beef off at referees on an internet forum, and it's acceptable.
A coach, a man who knows more about rugby than the 'fans' do, beefs off about a ref and all of a sudden it's a 'dummy spit', he's 'moaning', etc.
Freedom of speech, entitled to his opinion etc. He even states it had no bearing on the result.
Amazing ![Laughing icon_lol.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_lol.gif)

Not quite - I was a ref in a past life. It's difficult making a decision in a split-second and getting it right every single time. Not difficult, impossible. But no ref walks on that field thinking, "I'm going to screw over <insert team name here>," they make honest mistakes, just like the players and coaches do.

Tbh I think he gets far too many wrong to warrant a Super League position.

Indeed they are but isn't this the case in Super League also? Refs in SL can also be dropped for poor performances, its just that this doesn't happen all that often.

I can only remember one instance of this though.
There should be far more common punishment of poor refereeing.
Is the fact that we do not have enough refs having a detrimental impact on SL?

| Justin's right though, Thaler is sh*t. If I was as bad at my job as he is at his I'd be sacked tomorrow.
I don't see what the big issue is when coaches make comments about referees. It's as if they aren't protected enough by not having some sort of public disciplinary for poor performances and shocking decisions.

Absolutely right. It was only a few games ago that Justine was praising a wonderfully disciplined performance by his team as they weren't penalised in the second half of a game. Now the type of people who sincerely believe that a team can play 40 mins of Super League without committing one offence are those who think those e mails from Nigeria are genuine offers. Justine got a huge break there from the officials then and had the gall to claim the glory for himself (aren't we a well coached team being the implication). Now everything doesn't go his way and his team are hammered (we aren't talking about a close game here), we get a huge dummy spit. It is not the first time has come up with this ridiculous whining (8 broken jaws at Wire for instance).
Given his history lets hope the RFL slam a big fine on him
..and also keep selecting Thaler for KR games. ![Twisted Evil icon_twisted.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_twisted.gif)

| It wasn't so long ago that people were blasting Ganson week in, week out.
I recall another current referee who apparently thinks its OK for Malcolm Alker to throw forward passes.
Let's face it, there are few decent referees in Super League. The only two that I have ever seen are Calvin Ashley Klein -- an Australian who has recently gone back to Australia so he can get to know Ricky Stuart better -- and Thierry Alibert, a Gallic stalwart whose main defect is that his breath always smells of garlic snails.
