Perhaps the RFL did ask the Olympians and didn't get the best answer? Professional athletes like Wiggins will no doubt have stuff to do of their own, doesn't he ride for a team that has races at the moment? The likes of Ennis and the other recognisable medal winners would have media opportunities coming out of their ears, so potentially weren't available or willing.

As mentioned it seems this guy is very well connected and if he brings some money in why not? It also seems he's had RL exposure, so having a royal with business connections who likes League doesn't seem to be the worst idea ever.

Why not ask one of the greats of yesteryear to present it most years?

Apparently this guy is a great contact in sports sponsorship. This could be the RFL's way of trying to get business done with him. We don't know. But we'll boo him anyway because we want a gold medallist that may possibly have been approached but couldn't appear or just didn't want to appear.

In the current climate, a cup sponsored by Carnegie shold have been able to persuade somebody who uses their facilities. Jessica Ennis springs to mind.
