RL players get falsely accused and it makes front and back pages of the major newspapers. even in afl areas they talk about

RU player does same thing = no coverage

afl player does it = AFL media cover it up and our media ignore it

conclusion = people only want to hear about RL players in most of australia

the media are parasites living off our popularity

paranoid or what! I can assure you that in AFL states RL misbehaviour does not make front and back page news! It might get a couple of column inches a few pages in unless it is really serious. You want to talk about media coverage you should have seen the Perth paper with the Ben cousins saga, one day they had 7 pages dedicated to it! Of course in a state where people are interested in RL it is going to be headline news when it relates to RL. Having said all of that some of the media borders on hysteria in Sydney and makes me wonder why in a RL state the media is so hostile to the No1 sport?

Cooper is charged on a Sunday night (1), with a Court appearance to follow on the Friday following (2).

There was not one interview or attempt to question Cooper between one and two.

A rugby league player would have been subjected to an outrageous press camp stationed outside his home for the duration of the week.

There are only two possible answers to why this is:

1. No-one is interested because it is union; or
2. Bias.

There is no third choice.

as i said, it is due to 1. unless your a NSW RL paranoid fan then it is clearly 2 and it is all a conspiracy to make the Western suburbs AFL team succesful.

Was watching Fox sports news this morning and it mentioned it for about 10 secs. In fact they talked about an AFL player having an "incident" outside a pub in Melbourne straight afterwards and spent much longer and showed footage of the player. What's your point?

The point is when it comes to the rah rah, stories about the games themselves run as a top priority for some unknown reason (given they don't rate), but stories regarding "incidents" are seriously hidden away from public view.

The fact you can't see this demonstrates how you lack insight.

That is my 2nd point.

funny I'm sure the numerous incidents involving Wallaby players (Henjak, Sailor, Tuiqiri, et al) were heavily reported. It has a heck of alot more to do with A) the profile of the player B) where the news is being reported C) the profile of the code. But don't let me get in the way of your woe is me attitude!

In the three cases you mentioned, their rugby league connections were heavily emphasised!!!

I have no argument that in the NSW media RL gets a raw deal and at times it is ridiculous and borders on hysteria/downright bias against the game (again i ask why Rl fans in NSW allow your media to get away with it?). What I am saying is that in other states it barely rates a mention and in the code dominant state the dominant code gets the most press, good or bad. Maybe a bit hard for you to understand if you've not been out of Sydney!

There is entrenched bias against rugby league amongst editors and sub-editors in the major papers in the rugby league areas in Australia. This exists elsewhere in the world as well.

To make the discussion somewhat more productive, why do you think teh media in NSw loves beating up on RL so much? I can understand the Packer papers (due to losing the SL war) but why the News Ltd papers given their vested interests in RL being succesful?

I just answered that.

News Ltd is a business.

What is their business? News.

They will do anything to sell papers etc., including sticking it to a sport of which they are part owner.

That and the dodgy people making the decisions (as I referred to above) explain the entire situation.
