| [quote="leeds owl":2hdt0zhs]Aaronson made the run in behind the defence and challenged the keeper who dropped the ball and gave an open goal to Solomon versus Sheff Wed. Didn’t go down as an assist, but it was Aaronson’s effort and bravery that gave us that opening goal. Effort and bravery are words never applied to Joel Piroe by the way. He wouldn’t even have chased that ball or challenged the keeper the big Fanny.[/quote:2hdt0zhs]
Now that`s 2 words I didn`t think I would see put together mate Aaronson and bravery.

| Great win, proper party atmosphere at the game, could have been 10 goals, as we missed some other good chances.
Firpo and James the standouts for me but everyone played their part.
Really happy for Gnonto and Joseph getting on the scoresheet, both going through a dry patch.
Hoping this is the game that really kicks on our season now.

| That was one for our long suffering supporters. I was a lucky lad and managed to get a ticket yesterday. My first game was September ‘75 so I didn’t see the famous Southampton 7-0, so it was a privilege to be there yesterday. I said to my mate after the second it could be 4 or 5 today, but never expected 7. We seemed energised yesterday, and everyone including the subs played their part. You’d have to give Dan James M.O.M. To put the first 2 on a plate for Aaronson and Solomon, score a goal and then win the penalty for the 4th was pretty impressive, and it was game over by the time he left the field. Thought Firpo really added something yesterday, and having a naturally left footed player made a big difference when he was getting beyond defenders and crossing the ball. Byram has been a rock, but Farke has a real selection problem after yesterday for the next game. With Struijk back it also gives Farke a nice headache for centre back/midfield. I personally think Rothwell gives us the best balance in midfield, but I don’t pick the team. Anyway, happy days.

| Just nice to get an early settler then completely went for the jugular. Had the game done and dusted then the level we were pinging it around was sending Cardiff dizzy. Nice to watch a non heart attack game where we miss a hatful then are vulnerable to the equaliser.

| At 8am it was reported we are in the box seat to sign Archer.
By 10am it`s saying it`s now unlikely we sign him.
I`m sure it is going to be one of those last minute jobs if in fact it ever goes through.
Disappointing but no surprise.

| We are now linked with Adam Armstrong at Southampton.
Tbf I wouldn`t mind him on loan as he is proven at Championship level.

| Inheacho gone to Middlesbrough. It’s sounding like we’re waiting for a few dominoes to fall if we are to get Archer. Southampton being very stubborn considering new manager won’t play him at all

Yeh just spotted that mate.
And we turned down a £10 million bid from Real Betis for Joseph.
Seems like most of the top teams in the Championship are signing players.
I read somewhere Sheff Utd are hoping to get another 2 more forwards in to go with Brewster, Campbell, Moore, Brereton Diaz and Cannon! And have already got Chouhdrey and I think Clarke from Ipswich at FB along with another full back Jonjo somebody or other.

| The YEP reckon we’re done, no incomings. Saints wanted £20m on promotion for Archer and we wouldn’t pay it. Personally I think that’s too much for him but I’m surprised we’ve not gone for Iheanacho

Hasn`t Iheanacho gone to Boro?
How lucky were Sunderland again?
An own goal to give them the 3 points at Boro.

Yep gone to Boro. Sunderland very lucky, keeps them in the race.. Le Fee made the difference tonight for them.
Just hope this window doesn’t backfire on Leeds.. there will be hell to pay if it does

| At 1-0 Boro were battering them, but most of the chances fell to the wrong guy. They could have done with someone like Latte Lath. If Leeds have turned down an offer for Joseph maybe it’s an indicator they are going with what they have. A risky strategy if that’s the case. They may be looking at the table and realise we have accrued 60 odd points without a functioning centre forward so why change anything ?

| Yes, can see some sense in that but I just think it’s a risk they didn’t need to take and why not make ourselves far too good for the rest and really go for the jugular.
If we stay injury free we’ll be fine but they’ve rolled the dice, let’s hope it doesn’t come back to bite. Graham Smyth verdict piece is a good read

| Same old, same old. We are linked to everyone, have plenty of irons in the fire, the manager is waxing lyrical about bringing in players to freshen up the squad / provide cover / add competition and we just sit on our hands. Player was too expensive / wasn't available / didn't want to come - delete as appropriate. Its a very dangerous game that were yet again playing with players who started the season well now starting to flag a little (yes, ironic after a thumping 7-0 win) I understand 49ers don't want their pants pulled down on transfers etc but its starting to reach Gawwy fog platting levels when were linked with players and mysteriously fail to land any when all our nearest rivals for promotion have strengthened. I(f we can keep everyone fit and firing I still think we'll be ok but were taking a very big risk if we get a glut of injuries / have players start losing form / burnout etc.

| Yes agree, especially the scars of burnout from last season still remain. The squad is better than last year's though imo, it's got greater quality spread across the park and the midfield depth is much much better. We only have one number 10 though, so if Aaronson gets a nasty injury that would be big, same for Piroe.
Anyway, time will tell... gut feeling is we will win the league and get promoted, we are playing very well. If we have a good month this month we will be well on our way to the prem.

I think that hits the nail firmly on the head.
Stay injury free and we go up.
I had this debate with some of my Leeds friends who argue we are top of the league why do we need to sign anyone.
My view is what`s wrong with making it impossible to beat us and all successful teams/businesses have a contingency plan.
How long can Aaronson keep up the intensity?
Same with Rodon who if he gets injured we are bu$$ard as I think he holds the defence together.
Sheffield I believe have signed 7 players in January.
I think we have missed a trick with Iheancho tbh.

| It feels to me like the 49ers are only intent on buying when they know what level those players will be competing at next season. That wouldn’t be something I feel is necessarily wrong but it’s very, very risky unless you can get some good short term loans in to see us over the line. The perfect scenario is we don’t spend a penny now, we get promoted, and then sell the likes of Piroe and Joseph who aren’t up to P.L football and let the loan players like Solomon and Rothwell leave as well if better quality is available. If we do get promoted I’m sure everyone’s choice would be to have Premier League quality players brought in rather than making do with a couple of lads that were signed for and are of Championship standard. Like I say, very risky if that’s how they’re thinking but the best strategy if it comes off.

| If you look at most of the transfers around the league, apart from Le Fee, and Marcus Edwards, I don't think any of them get into our 11.
I wanted us to sign players, and it seems, so did the club, but it doesn't look like there were many good deals around, although, Alex Palmer from WBA for 2m is a deal I would have done, but it seems the club are happy, at least in the short-term with the current GK, which is a far bigger gamble than not signing a new 9 or 10.

Solomon would be good in the Prem, he's good enough at that level imo. Rothwell would be a useful squad player in the Prem.. he's looked like one of the best at this level.
Joesph needs a season on loan in the championship playing every week, theres a good player in there.
It's a difficult balancing act when you have one eye on the summer as we need as much ££££ power as possible, we'd need to spend easily in excess of £100m to stay up. But, take your eye off 'today' and it can cost you big time... someone like Iheanacho would surely have made sense as a loan, plus he's a proven goal scorer in the prem.. odd one that.
