| Quote ="Roy Haggerty"With the best will in the world, when an RL adminstrator says that something is a good idea, everyone should immediately start looking to do the opposite.
Seriously though, everything that Gallop currently says has to be viewed through the prism of what's currently going on in Australia with an aggressive AFL seeking to expand into Qld and NSW. He's hardly going to say "Yes, we're bricking it because a cashed up AFL has some bizarre hold on the imagination of many of our countrymen with their strange aerial ping-pong and is importing their odd eighties-style muscle vests into our backyard, while we can only barely afford to keep the best team in the comp going in Melbourne." In April this year, Gallop was quoted as supporting a third Queensland team in the Ipswich area with a fourth to come further down the line. He's a pro, making whatever noises he sees fit given the stories on the back pages at the time.
I think it's reaching a bit to suggest that anything he says now on the subject of how he squares up to AFL in the Aussie TV rights wars is relevant to anything we do to try to grow the game in Europe.'"
pure poetry. f**k you know your stuff

every other football code was established in sydney prior to RLs introduction in 1908
ie AFL, soccer and RU.
indeed the battle for supremacy with union which began in 1908 was only won in 1909 when the NSWRL signed the second lot of wallabies including chris mckivat and the playing of the roos vs wallaby games.
anything else youd like to know dear.

replace them where?
they are in the leagues they deserve to be in.
my point is they dont deserve to be in SL. and all their bleating from their fans about various RFL injustices or the fact that expansion clubs dont deserve to be in SL is just jealousy.
these failed heartland clubs get what they deserve

So there were proffesional Football clubs operating in Australia in 1909 on a similar level to those in the UK ?
I'll give you a little bit of help , the 1909 FA cup final was played in front of 71,000 people at Crystal Palace , who won the australian equivalent

nope i never said wigan and leeds were the only clubs that deserve to be in SL.
im comfortable with the current heartland clubs in SL except wakey for widnes next time.
but within 5 years all of these clubs needs to be averaging 10,000 crowds and making moves to improve stadia which are poor.
the best example is Hull KR. slow crowd growth and continual ground improvements.

pick the best from a bad bunch.
kicking wakey out will hopefully be a lesson for cas and others like them, maybe even bradford one day.
and also an incentive for clubs like fax that they have a chance at getting in.
some clubs certainly are moving in the right direction.
the whole idea of franchising is clubs will improve in these areas and i believe the system will pull it off.
then again you get some clubs who get brand new grounds and still fail so it does question your faith in some clubs

RU crowds and finances were very strong prior to the introduction of RL
international RU games drew very large crowds of up to 40,000, and the NSWRU had around 8000 pounds in the bank. enough money indeed to buy its own ground.
AFL and soccer were getting fair crowds for their games as well.
RL started from a position of nothing.
at least in england you had established clubs and crowds and finances. we started from scratch.
please keep this up, its funny watching you losing so badly
