He's untouchable. He's already made 73 tackle busts, 30 more than second place Willie Manu - that's outstanding. He demonstrates remarkable feats of athleticism every time he takes the field, but it is so common place now that people just expect it & are used to it.

Great post that...
...while making a very simple point (that Tomkins is a phenominal talent) you've still managed to display the classic arrogant and condescending nature that makes some Wigan fans so "special"

The poster that mentioned Ablett stated he was one of Leeds' better performers, not that he thought he'd be awarded MOS.
In the handful of Wigan games I've seen this year Tomkins hasn't really performed as well as I've seen him do in the past.

| Two players so far for me Tomkins or Roby but still a lot of rounds to be played. Who might pick up the young player of the year?

| Tomkins should have won it last year, just pipping Roby IMO. I wonder if some of his antics wound up players who would have otherwise voted for him. Then again Chase is no angel.

Wow, how bitter are you.
If you want to add to the conversation at least read what other people have posted before jumping in both pies first.

Precisely - it could even be argued that it's exactly that type of attitude that could [iprevent[/i young Tomkins from picking up the MoS; that, and his habit of old-manning officials so that other players are penalised - hardly endearing qualities when it comes time to cast your vote.
For the record - I said 'if' WTW had a contender for MoS it would be Kirmond - a clear indication that we don't have a contender, but DK would come closest.

| Are there ever any more than 1/2 dozen contenders each year?
Seems like this year has about 4 contenders.
Its harder to find someone worthy than it should be, the competition should be good enough that the hard part is choosing from 20 top contenders for the title.

| Always thought Aidrian Vowles was the only recipient who came across as a man of steel. Later recipients seem to selected more on a mvp basis.
From Wakefield I think Aiton is coming across as our Man of Steel candidate.

| Are there any criteria set for qualification as Man of Steel?
Don't suppose so and I know the title was derived from an old sponsorship deal, but Man of Steel implies toughness and durability so I'll put in a word for Craig Gower.

| if it was awarded now for this season I would give to Hock. He seems unplayable at times. But I doubt he would get it and at best maybe in the top 3. Tomkins has played well but the problem with him is that you expect him to do all the things he does.
Dureau, Roby and Brough have been the other players who seem to be up there from what I've seen of them.
Barring any injuries or late revivals from players I think it would be a toss up between Roby and Tomkins. The one thing I am glad about is that Chase wont win it again, that was a joke last year.

Yes it could be Gaz Hock. Certainly he is a player that GB/England needs as he is one player that the Ozzies would have no answer for.
Just hope he stays on the straight and narrow.

Why do you say that?
"No answer for" he would be knocked on his over and over till he snapped and was sent off.
Australia has plenty players that make Hock look second rate. He should not represent his Country again.

Sam Tomkins just backed up every word I said in this post last night.
Outstanding try. He made them Hull KR defenders look very, very, very ordinary. Only Sam Tomkins could score that try. Hull KR fans chanting 'rent boy' at him towards the end of the game.
Cut and above the rest of Super League. There's no debate - Sam is the best player in the league and deserved the Man Of Steel award last year & deserves it again this year.
Just a shame those Hull KR defenders were so embarrassed they wont vote for him.

I'm yet to meet a SL fan who doesn't acknowledge Tomkins as a precosious talent, the best in Super League but your bitterness about him not being voted MoS yet makes you just look stupidly bitter.
Pat Richards has never been the greatest player in SL yet I don't suppose you were frothing with rage when he won MoS?

Loving chuff, it was the poorest set of defending and possibly one of the worst halves or rugby i've ever witnessed, Lauaki could have scored the very same try with those muppets.
Hey Cadoo, you still claiming to be a Wigan fan or will you go back to Crusaders when they hit the big time again?
