Of course it is.....he baited his hook and low and behold, not only did he get a few nibbles on the Spactator site, he's caugh a few here too
Huddersfield1895........As for ARU bankrupting the IRB.....
The IRB have more money than God. If ever you wanted to find a more corrupt, back-handed and self serving governing body you'd have a long search on your hands.......they make Goldman Sachs look both ethical and poor at the same time
Example> NZRU with the substantial backing of the Kiwi tax payer are underwritting the cost of the coming RUWC. The benefit to NZRU and the Kiwi tax payer for this $50,000,000 risk, is the potential residual revenue gained through a percentage of the ticket sales, merchandise and the associated tourism.......but everything else goes to Dublin. Now......like it or not, most Public Schoolboys do well in industry and the TV industry is loaded with these fops.
Here is another example of why the IRB will never run out of cash:
US$207 Million is what the RFU have to pay for the 2015 RUWC.....US$248 Million is the asking price for the 2019 one that the Japanese RFU met. This tournament fee comes on top of the host nation having to bear all the costs of the tournament, while the IRB, through Rugby World Cup Limited, will continue receiving from the tournament all commercial revenue, including broadcasting rights, sponsorship, corporate hospitality and travel packages.
So...just to do the maths on this....over 4 tournaments (192 games) the IRB will net in excess of AU$1 Billion dollars just from the nations wanting to host the competition. Add to that at least another AU$1 Billion in residual revenue and you'll see whey the ARU will never bankrupt them.
Like 'em or not....they now how to milk a cash cow.

I can't agree more.
as I said, the article is a pi55 take....

well said...the first 8 games of Super Rugby played in Australia attracted a paltry 146,000 an average of 18,250 or only 73% of the crowds attracted to RL...terrible....absolutely terrible
That said, thank god for the South Africans eh.......178,000 for the 7 games of the opening weekend of S15......an average of 25,428 per game . But at least that dropped to 24,300 for the next round a whole 5%.....shows how unpopular Union really is eh

'" Only if the NRL had one state teams like union has, then we would be averaging far more then what union would ever average.
Say for instance NRL version of S15 or is it 16? that's how much I know of union.
NSWS vs QUEENSLAND either in Sydney or in Brisbane both of them would be definate sell outs..
Then Melbourne vs Perth sell outs in both states..
Then Adelaide vs NZ both definate big pullers.
Then we have Canberra vs Newcastle both would be big pullers also...
So that's just a example,
The ARL has 100 years of tradition..
Love to see 8 teams from S15 or 16 cramped up in one state and survive.Like hope in hell.

Over 22,000 fans at the Suncorp to see the Queensland Reds flog the Melbourne Rebels in the S15 Manly earlier.
You would think a big club like Manly would get that every week in the NRL wouldn't you seeing as Sydney is such a hotbed of RL
Mind you when 2 big named Sydney teams couldn't even break the 20,000 fans barrier for the charity shield at ANZ (played in the same city BOTH teams come from) you have to wonder if NRL really is as popular as the trolls are telling us....

Huge difference, that's one state vs other state. And plus it's a poor turnout.
Love to see the S15 have 8 teams in one state and survive....It ain't going to happen....

Thanks for confirming what I said.
16,000 fans for Parra v Penrith (each teams nearest geographic rivals) is not good at all.
It seems RL in Sydney is on the decline.
That worries me.

| lol at anyone talking about S15 crowds against NRL clubs
how dumb
S15 are state sides.
so you need to compare them with our states sides
ie Maroons - 52,500 sellout in hrs
Blues - Average 70,000
lol at the trolls
so to compare crowds :
NSW Blues 70,000 vs NSW Waratahs 22,000
Queensland Maroons - 52,000 vs Queensland Reds 18,000
or TV Ratings :
NSW Blues - 1.5 million in nsw vs NSW Waratahs - 80,000
Queensland Maroons - 1.1 million in qld vs Qld Reds - 50,000

| sorry for multiple posts guys but i forgot to add, indeed more people in queensland watch 1 game of origin than the entire Queensland Reds season
same for NSW too.
another way to compare is to take the aggregates :
ie Total Crowds for Pro RU in NSW - 22,000
Total for RL 200,000
Total crowds for Pro RU in queenlsand - 18,000
Total crowds for Pro RL in queensland - 80,000
cant be bothered doing TV ratings, but you guys get the idea
