Brisbane is supposedly a RL hotbed, but there were 12,000 empty seats at the RLWC Final, featuring the home side.....whilst 47,000 curious Japanese were prepared to watch a neutral test.

Comparing the two codes of rugby and the music industry is a perfect analogy. You can fool the masses easily by putting time, money and effort into promoting something inferior to appear superior.

Not just One Direction but all modern pop and RnB chart music is awful but they are all household names and sell out gigantic stadium tours. There are no redeeming features to most of the songs in the charts, it is all instantly forgettable and they will no way on Earth still be played on the radio in fifty years’ time.

Then on the other hand there are fantastic bands around that play to small audiences in small venues who 97.5% (maybe more) of the population have never heard of. Take the band who have produced my favourite album of the year this year; The Fernweh (and their self-titled debut album). It wipes the floor with any album by any artist in the year’s top40 pop/RnB chart, I mean, FFS, I believe LadBaby was the UK Christmas #1. But the Fernweh only played upstairs in the pub Gulliver’s on Oldham Street when they came to Manchester.

Rugby union could be a good game, has got better as it has sped up in the last five years or so, but a good game of rugby league is miles better than rugby union. Just because the TV companies’ bias as well as investment and promotion of the game is bigger, thus, they get more exposure and greater crowds, it doesn’t mean it’s a better game than rugby league. Just means the old boys network who are at the head of these investment companies and tv companies push the two sports in the direction they want them to go in.

Rugby union is loved all around the world. Rugby league is loved in the north of England and south east of Australia. The sooner people stop falling for the “greatest game” rubbish the sooner we can start rebuilding the game because it isn’t. It’s a pale imitation of what it used to be. As for your last point; the same could be said for Mozart and Van Gough, both of whom died as paupers and often struggled for patronage against their, shall we say, lesser (as ultimately determined by history) contemporaries. Utterly laughable to sugest Union is a more skillfull code, and as for it being loved the world over, yes it has a better spread than League, but it is still only a niche market in a few pockets around the world, ice hockey, field hockey, basketball, cricket, baseball, all have a bigger world wide presence, ice hockey second only to football across central europe scandinavia and eastern europe. Only in New zealand is union the number one sport, an insignificant island of 10 million people’s just off Antarctica.

I disagree. Some of the skills. Now on show particularly among the backs is a lot closer to RL than it was 10 years ago let alone 20 years ago.

Their short kicking game has got better , they are more able to break down defences. The massive number of ex league players now coaching RU is leading to massive improvements. In another few years there will not be as much difference.

If they dropped down to 13 players the handling skills would be as good as in RL even quicker.

Not necessarily at club level but at the highest club level and international level the passing moves are a lot slicker than it was.

Im secretly hoping that the likes of Farrell and Wane etc are still being paid by the RL and that they are undercover agents tasked with evolving RU into RL. So far so good, we just need to get down to 13 a side.
