More like no one bothered to comment on the previous update which is a perfectly valid reason to 'lose enthusiasm' for such a task given that I did it in the first place to provoke discussion. Typical of rugby league fans that they are only interested when there is something negative to moan about.

| Quote ="The Devil's Advocate"My favourite was the league table showing each SL club’s % increase / decrease on the previous year.
I even got mildly excited when my club was vying for top spot with only a couple of rounds to go, until that is, it came to light the club was over egging the figures & giving freebies away, presumably to compliment the cut price ST’s – strangely the club nearly went bust.
Now we just get long threads with derogatory titles like “The Mad Dr”, yet ironically, I would have thought Salford would be cruising the attendance increase league right now.'"
Check your PM's.
You are right about Salford this season. They will walk the Attendance League Table this season.
On the subject of Koukash, the RL constituency do not like outsiders... do not trust outsiders... do not welcome outsiders. He is regarded as a threat and will never be considered a member of that constituency, hence the sheer scale of the derogatory remarks aimed in his direction. Sundry members of the RL community wouldn't look out of place at a UKIP or EDL rally.

Cheers for them.
Good effort from the top five, I expected Salford’s with all the hype, but Cas are going really well, so are HKR.
The bottom group is understandable, however, the current C.C & S.L winners appears poor considering last year’s achievements .

Hull KR's attendances are inflated by a load of freebies for the Leeds game in Round 1 along with offers of Red Army Challenge £10 adult and £1 junior ticket offers. That game alone accounts for almost all of their total attendance increase. Castleford's attendance increase is more positive and genuine.
Wigan's attendances are of far more concern. Down by 9.34% last year and currently down by 7.40% this year despite achieving the double! Warrington's aren't too flash either... 7.15% down last year and 4.93% down this year.
I may have to amend the CC attendances. League Express is reporting an attendance of 5,566 for the Hudds/Saints cup game yesterday instead of the 7,150 figure reported elsewhere.

Yet this sort of thing is applauded when the likes of Saracens do it in Union inflating the averages on a much bigger scale?

yes but when they do it should just be applauded . Not to forget the fairytale of them turning a profit by doing it and renting out wembley, but in the long run it should help marketing the game so id have no problem with it.

It should be applauded in union and league as it is a great marketing tactic. I'm just wondering why Mr Eve does not consider HKR's attendance as 'positive and genuine' just because it is filled with freebies (for a one off game).

| You could always do what certain football teams do and if you buy a league season ticket you also have to purchase tickets for cup games Pretty mean.
I'd rather clubs added on £20/£30 for a season ticket and you get in all cup games for nowt

Under that system, you'd be pretty miffed if you we are London fan paying £30 for a ticket that you probably couldn't use (unless you were forking out for flights and the rest).
I'd rather clubs just put their efforts into making CC ties into events that are actually worth attending.
I went to one of the all Super League ties yesterday, expecting a moderately competitive match. Unfortunately, it was clear from the start that one of those teams had absolutely no intention of making the event worthy of the £20 admission.
We aren't talking about an SL v C1 mismatch here. We are talking about two teams that are supposedly peers - on a level that is at least competitive, if not equal. If Wakefield had even tried yesterday then I imagine the 4,400 that did show up wouldn't have felt so ripped off.
And the number of people around town who had no idea that there was a game on suggests that Wakefield's marketing activity is bang on-song as well.

Point of order. Nobody applauds it, they simply point out that the union chaps are very good at that sort of thing. It also poses the question AGAIN, as to why an insecure section of RL fans need to comment on the bigger but slower code in a thread about poor challenge cup attendances.

If it works then it should rightly be applauded.
Fingers crossed it works for HKR,if it doesn't then hopefully its Hudgell and co who will cover the losses unlike other SL clubs who had to go cap in hand to the governing body for financial help

Where have I commented on HKR's attendance/marketing? I think the only thing I've said is that they'll come close to getting the 10k average this year. I have no issue with cheap/free tickets if they are part of a documented strategy designed to getting averages up

There is no losses, the tickets were part of a sponsorship deal and given to kids who would very likely not have gone otherwise. Game got over 11k, without offer it would have likely got around 10.000, nothing lost and added to a great atmosphere.

| Sky and the RFL have ruined this completion.
If Sky had the tv rights to the completion they would have promoted it more.
Even though Sky show a game or 2 from the quarter finals and semi finals they never build the competition up.
Everything is now all about the Grand final and the cup is forgotten.
It is just something that is in the rugby league calendar and nothing else.
This was one competition that we had that was unique to us.
The Aussies loved.
I watched an interview with Danny Buderus who said he and his friends used to get up in the middle of the night to watch the challenge cup final and dream that they would play at Wembley one day.
Does this not say something?
