Pretty sure if Wayne Rooney signed a 12 month contract extension with Man Utd it would be big news and yet contracts in football mean even less, and football's hardly a sport in decline. |

It's effectively a 2 year extension rather than 12 months and has one of England's/SL's better players signed up for the prime of his career. |

A new five year contract (with new, and I assume improved, terms and conditions) is not the same as a 1 year extension to an existing contract.
