Last time I checked, England weren't playing at home in the opening game

Not sure where you got the impression that I was on benefits, but I have never signed on in my life.
As for me being "in charge" and everything being fine.....I have never said I have the answers, I'm simply pointing out that at the moment, it is looking worrying with regard to ticket sales, but if you need to sling personal insults, especially ones well wide of the mark and with no foundation, then knock yourself out

| Heard that the Ireland game in Limerick had sold around 3500 and the Fiji v Ireland game at Rochdale was around the same mark.
Think that's pretty positive at this stage.

That does sound quite good actually. I fear for Scotland v USA on a Thursday night in Salford tbh.

Not sure how accurate the Limerick figure is, had a look and there is only one stand open and not many seats sold.
The Rochdale game looks to be selling well. Think some fans need to be realistic about ticket sales. The tournaments still 4 month away and we've probably sold more already than the 2000 World Cup. Wonder how many tickets the 08 World Cup had sold 4 months before the tournament?

that's pretty good, the RFL commented that they picked Rochdale for the Fiji game due to the town having a big Fijian population...and those sales seem to back that up.
as others have said, the Scotland-USA game at Salford mid-week is a concern, can't understand why they didn't attempt to play at least one Scotland game in Scotland.

In 2000 they played Scotland, Wales and Ireland games in their own countries and Scotland in particular was just embarrassing (and oh boy, did the BBC use it as a stick to beat the tournament with).

It's not a confirmed figure, it's what I was told by someone in the know whilst doing my work for RLP.
I think a lot of fans, and I mean a really high percentage of us havn't bought tickets yet. I've got tickets to 3 games but will be attending at least 8.

| I'm the same, I've got tickets for the big 3 matches but will be going to all the England games, NZ v Samoa, Ireland vs Fiji, Cook Islands vs Tonga and a couple of quarter finals as a minimum.
The signs are very positive I think. It certainly isn't going to be a repeat of 2000.

I was at the volunteer launch yesterday and with all the preparation behind the scenes, the only thing that will fail with this World Cup is people not buying tickets and getting to games.

| But you can say that about EVERY sport. Slavs and Croats playing for Germany, Brazilians playing for Russia in Football.
Athletes changing nationality every 2 minutes, same for boxing, Rugby Union, Rugby League, Tennis, but there's only League fans who use it as an excuse to call it a farce.

RU only held their first World Cup in the late 1980's. Our first real organized World Cup was in 2008 (the '95 and 2000 tournaments were sporadic and not part of any real structure), so we're only about 20 years behind RU. It's the fault of the previous generation for spending too much time focusing on 'beating the Aussies' and not prioritizing international development.
Anyway, I guess you're forgetting the likes of Vainikolo, Hape, Tuilagi, Henry Paul playing for the England RU team? Other sports are just as bad as RL. The difference is that they have a more established international base and strong central leadership, whereas RL is just starting out in many countries and has little to no central leadership, at least from the RLIF (the RLEF do a great job).
The only reason international RL won't work is if instead of supporting it, the fans sit at home and say 'it'll never work'. And then wonder why there are empty seats at international matches.

| Were miles behind were never going to compete with rugby union at international level if we try for the next 100 hundred years it's just a fact they have a lot more competitive teams for a start we just try and make teams competitive by filling them with average Aussies as you will see at the world cup and for the record I do the support the international game by going to games but it is what it is one team ahead of two teams then the rest make up the numbers

Do you think it happened by sitting on their backsides and claiming that there's no point trying and it will never work? Do you think they have some sort of magical secret to international success? No, it's just hard work and a fanbase willing to accept new things. RU is a terrible sport, yet they have been able to make a reasonable impact at international level. RL, which is a very good sport, should therefore have no problem surely. The only thing in the way is the apathy of fans who seem to want a quick fix for everything and are not prepared to accept that development takes time.
You mentioned the match at Craven Park, I doubt there will be any Australian players in either the France or PNG teams on show. Also, did you forget who the current World Champions are? Clue: it isn't Australia.

| Firstly in rugby union the likes of Scotland Wales and Ireland have played rugby union forever your never going to get into that market unfortunately as for the games at craven park I agree png won't have any Aussies but I think France will and I knew you would bring up the fact that new Zealand were world champions but since then how many times have they beaten them the fact is Australia are way ahead and England and new Zealand get the odd victory against them

Since then they've been neglected by small minded administrators, whereas RU has embraced their international game and put massive amounts of effort into making it successful (along with money and some dodgy dealings along the way). That's the only difference. We all agree RL is the best sport, there isn't any reason it couldn't be successful internationally, it just isn't at the moment because for decades the people involved failed the sport. And even now, we have people clamoring for a return to an illogical GB team. Why do you think nobody in Scotland, Ireland or Wales plays RL? Because for decades there has been no incentive to develop the sport in those nations, we have just thrown a 'GB' banner over the national team and pretended everything is ok.
