Whilst it is undoubtedly a good thing to see clubs do this sort of promotion, it seems quite ridiculous that a broad marketing campaign like this fails to address basic points like who are you? what do you do? and why should i care?

Do you really need to have an opinion on this, especially such a pedantic one. It's obvious what the ad is for, don't be such a pedant. We are not trying to attract people who don't know what RL is or who Trinity are, we are attempting to remind folk who are perhaps lapsed that we are still here.

You may wish to defend everything which comes out of your club as your misplaced view of supporting them, but thankfully we arent all cursed with your idiot blinkers.

In your impotent rage you may have also missed that this is a thread for people to discuss the marketing of the game, what they like what they dont like, what works, what doesnt, what we should try, what we shouldnt. Not as you may have lets all bow at the feet of Wakefield now they have done something pro-active in marketing themselves for the first time in a million years.

It is good that Wakefield are doing this sort of thing (i have already said that but maybe you missed it), More clubs should do this type of thing. It is however a big mistake not to mention the sport or the competition they are playing in when trying to advertise Wakefield, because not doing that excludes many many many more people than it could ever hope to include. And it would ridiculously easy to say "This Sunday the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats clash with the Leeds Rhinos in The Super League, Europe's premier Rugby League Competition".

Hopefully Mr Glover will learn what works and what doesnt from this campaign to improve it in the future and he hasnt taken the Vastman approach of just pretending everything is wonderful and the campaign is 100% correct on first go.

and how many people do you think will bother to google the clubs name compared to how many just wouldnt bother? Surely it would be simpler to just tell them who they are rather than expecting people to go and find out for themselves.

i dont think the idea was to promote the sport in general or the competition as neither of these are mr glovers responsibility.

most people will see the ad and not give it a second thought (pretty much like all the other adverts on tv)

however it may provoke some locals (who undoubtedly would know who both teams were) into going along, who may otherwise not know the game was even being played.

Here is a poster that preaches the virtues of expanding the game knocking the efforts of a club attempting to do just that at no cost to the wider RL world for a change. This coupled with the fine community work done by trinity is sends a clear message that the new regime at Wakefield Trinity is VERY serious about running a professional and ground breaking rugby league club.

Already the new regime has made massive strides in improving all aspects of the management of the club... I thought the change of ownership might have come too late for Trinity ... now I am beginning to wonder....

That market being people who already know of WTW, already know of Rugby League and Super League, know of the rivalry with Leeds Rhinos, would recognise the game and the team from the action shots shown and who watch emmerdale, ignoring everyone else.

Seems a very specific segment and a very targeted market to use such a broad medium.

Im not nit-picking nor knocking the efforts of a club attempting to expand the game (something you have previously argued they werent doing saying they were only attempting to reach 'lapsed' fans, something which any idiot can see they arent looking to do, they are trying to expand the game and reach new fans) I have said three times now that it is a good thing that Wakefield are trying to do.
