| George Burgess played his first game for Souths yesterday, in 41 degree heat.
It's crazy, they should have called the game off, we have had over 40 every day this week,

| I'm sure the Broncos will be just having a look at the lad. He'll not be guaranteed a game in the U20s - he'll get a game if he's good enough. The Broncos would - probably rightly - assume that if he does very well they'll talk him into staying in Australia, or returning in the near future. It will benefit the British game so long as part of the deal is that he must play for England and not Australia. So long as that happens when juniors do this then I'm all for it.
Gould is right - we should be looking at sending a lot of juniors to Australia to train with NRL sides.

yeah
when the australian game was behind englands it was our imports to england that changed the aussie game
players like ken kearney and harry bath learned how the english art of forward play as opposed to the aussie way then of bash and barge, they went back to australia and it changed our game

| Bullfrogs?? If you mean cane toads then you are quite right. I have to kill 2/3 a night during summer and they are not small. They eat anything smaller than themselves (i.e. all the indigenous frogs) and are highly toxic - our stupid dachshund has twice been close to dying due to biting one of them.

Great stuff, and good luck to him.
Can you link his other blogs on the VT when he writes please? I'd be interested to read it.

As you may (you probably didn't, did you?) read from his blog, he's a 6'5, 17 stone prop forward, built in the modern day prop forward style, like a Stuart Fielden.
He rose through the academy ranks with Widnes and was rated as one of our top prospects, but has stagnated. This could be due to the fact the other lads he's playing against are now not as inferior in size as he's used to, I don't know. He's rumoured to have had a bad year off the field too.
Anyway, reports have suggested he looked useful in pre-season trials for the Vikings, so perhaps he does have a future at the top level.
I'm not aware if he's had any representative honours in recent seasons.

He didn't need to travel half way around the world for that. He just needed to have a chat with Ricky Bibey!

| Here’s the preview to his next game, against the Central Comets. He's been given the Number 8 shirt too.

You can click on Mull’s name and see his new team photo. He has no written profile yet though.

| i find it amazing hes surprised at training twice a day, seems to have come as a huge shock to him that you can do conditioning and on pitch stuff in the same day and predominantly use resistance based, full body conditioning rather than seperate weight training and cardio sessions. its pretty standard for most track and field athletes and NRL clubs and has been for years now.
we really are a mile behind the aussies when it comes to training/conditioning.
it will definately do him a lot of good being exposed to that level of professionalism.
friends involved in this sort of thing have commented many times after spending time working in australia that in many regards the standard of conditioning coaching and general knowledge levels/flexibility/willingness to embrace new ideas and research amongst conditioning staff in this country (they make specific reference to rugby league circles) is roughly like that seen in the first rocky movie. thats how they explained it to me anyway.

Mull has been training with a part-time semi-pro club and not a Super league club,VS. He will be experiencing a full-time pro environment for the first time.
