Both these are Levers....they cost the organisation that offerd them as part of a deal nothing other than space or airtime.

At no stage does the article refer to "putting a positive spin on a bad story" or "sweeping something under the carpet"...it simply refers to ADVERTORIAL that was offered to secure a deal.

Simply put......the AFL got extra exposure as part of their negotiations. At no stage were any agreements in place to "bury bad news"...which I will remind you again...was what I was commenting on.



As for the NRL's spokesperson saying that:

you will see that the section in inverted commas is directly attributed to him. It is not a statement of fact that was:
"revealed in court documents" but just his opinion.
I would like to add at this stage that John Brady is to be applauded for his clever use of these words......very clever.



Never one to go back on my word, I accept that the AFL negotiated positive exposure and additional "plugs" as part of a deal with media companies which is normal business practice in my industry............but I still deny that bad stories were "swept under the carpet" as was claimed.
As usual, dally messenger read an article in the press and believed it to be 100% correct.........alas, he is again shown wanting and his comments below just make him look even more out of his depth when discussing topics that should be left to the grown ups.

That'd be fine if the ads actually had Advertisement Feature as you put it, they don't.

And secondly, ch9 do not have the rights to AFL, yet in the last 3 years, they have had some pretty pathetic stories about AFL taking over Sydney and Brisbane, and also how it's expanding around the world on their flagship current affairs show called 60 minutes.

I know a heap of people who emailed that pathetic mob after their hatchet job on RL and not 1 letter was read out, only the letters glorifying the fumble code, the media ing stinks.

If your code needs to resort to this type of crap to get coverage, the sport ain't worth it imo.

When an NRL of lower grader does something stupid, the media are all over it and blaming the code, even places like Vic, SA and WA that don't give RL even an ounce of publicity in regards to scores, how the game is going or what is coming up, lead their front pages with pathetic headlines about doom and gloom when ever anyone es behind a tree.

The AFL on the other hand has a glorious run in the NSW and QLD media, not a peep about the bad stuff, just promotion promotion promotion.

If people want to earn a living on lies and deceit, that's their problem, just don't keep feeding us BS about 1 code and kicking everyone elses.

They don't have to. It all depends on the publisher/editor and the deal on the table.

In the world we live in, Media Moguls are King Makers...the media got a Black US PRESIDENT ELECTED...The Media got Labour into power in the UK....AND THEN GOT THEM OUT AGAIN.
