There was no way they could stop it happening bar concreting up the entrances.
Too much water and too little time to do anything about it.

With the exception of America, Canada, Venezuela, Guyana, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Panama, Virgin Islands, Hawaii, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, PNG(hell, lets say all the Pacific Islands), Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Philippines, Thailand, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, India, China, Japan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Moldova, Montenegro, Sweden, Finland, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Madagascar, Morocco, Senegal, Ethiopia and arguebly a few other nations.
That's most of the worlds population by my reckoning. FIFA are imbeciles and liars. They claim most countries are football mad, despite it being untrue, and uneducated journalists and gullable fools just eat it up.
RL should start claiming to be the most popular sport in the world. After 20 years of lying we may start seeing results. People in the Peruvian mountains will turn around like, "What? RL is the most popular game in the world? Why aren't we playing it? We must play this game! Call the President, dammit!"
Because that's basically what FIFA do. They convince people they're the world game, and sheep people want to get involved and compete because they feel they're missing out.
I love copying and pasting my list of countries where Soccer isn't #1. It breaks hearts everytime. Because soccer fans actually believe in their own hype.
Another great one from soccer fans is "only yanks call football soccer!", when actually only really British people use football for soccer.
