for what it's worth,I believe that if the england squad played their club rugby in the NRL ie at at consistently higher level etc,they would automatically raise up to the level of the big two internationally - how about a team of 'UK Warriors' in the NRL (tongue in cheek)? Basically the english players have the ability but lack the higher level of competition to compete at that higher level - ie anyone of the three SOA series down under is far bigger than the SL Grand Final...

The English players lack the genetics.
We're seeing more players coming through under franchising though, give it time, its only been 2 seasons.

Hard to do given their penchant for spouting historical dates, TV viewing figures (that are based on averages), immaginary TV Deals with Billions and name calling going on regularly on the NRL boards.
God help anyone who tried to explain that an international game is one where you don't get all but 1 of the players playing in the same domestic league.
I have to admit, my attitude towards Australians has changed in the year I have been posting on the NRL boards......sad reflection of the dross that some have served up......my membership of Anyone But England may be recoked soon...I was glad they beat the wannabees 
Dully M....I suspect given the OP was referring to a 1981 piece of commentary...and in those days, pre SKY, the BBC regularly got 20,000,000 viewers for Soccer matches involving England, that your RL Legendary Maninga quote is actually only known in Australian RL circles.....which as I have explained to you many times...is not THE WORLD  and is therefore the least known of the 2 quotes. |
