| Quote ="littlerich"The RFL could do two things to help:
Quins should not have to produce a Franchise Application document. There's a saving of a few sheets of A4 paper for a start and the RFL have their own rubber stamp which has already been bought and paid for.
The RFL should use their almighty powers to immediately appoint Steve O'Connor as the new CEO of Harlequins. That bloke has generated a £1m profit from a £2.5m turnover in the ass end of a rugby league competition during the worst economic recession known to man. Can that man crap gold or what? Get him installed at the Stoop ASAP.'"

| Rugby League in London is not a new fad. It goes back to the days of Fulham. Every time it fails. At some point somebody has to say thats thats. Why should the RFL fund the development? I for one am a little bit tired of all the hassle and expense linked with expansion. I would love to see the game a success in all parts of the UK but it isn't going to happen. Every club currently in the competition would like extra money to fund development so location should not play a part. Harlequins is poorly run in a part of the UK which is really not bothered in having a rugby league club in the top flight. I wish it was different. But thats life

| Never saw in anything Quins or RFL saying have to fund game down south? What community schemes are Quins RL run? Or just an excuse as no funds? Quins low crowds mean the club struggle what on earth has that got to do with them developing the game in financial terms?
To me it's pretty clear RFL did all London ground work then when Crysaders came along they left it and says to Quibs as a club go on run yourselves without us and simply it hasn't been possible for them to do so!

Absolutely spot on. They are not self sufficient. The club has been established for a long time so surely something must be in place to develop the game down there. Part of the criteria for a championship club to get into the elite is youth development which is a kick in the teeth when established super league clubs need assistance in developing the game. No more funding. Time to let them stand on their own two feet

| The problem with Quins is that it has no specific area that fans can say "that's my team". London is too big for one club. It's been 30 years now, it hasn't worked. Goodbye London, welcome back Cumbria

That would be the optimum solution for Quins as the developement side is now turning out players who can hack it at that level, which would enable a new club to kick on and eventually get into SL under its own steam. The only problem would be where to play, but that's not such a big problem in the Championship. But Toulouse? Get real!

Perhaps he should be made to sell his Wigan shares and give him the chance to buy them back at a later date if they are available after he has sold his quins shares. He should never have been allowed to get his hands on the Wigan shares in the first place to the detriment of Quins.

Not really he could of just walked out on Quins but instead gave them a two million pound loan and saved their immediate future! Without Lennegan there would be no Quins RL so you can't blame him one iota!
Big question is why would noone buy his shares? If the RFL bailed them out how do we know in 12 months time we'd be back here yet again?

| it would be a disgrace to 'help' a club stay in business, they have had more than enough time to show that they are a viable business...and have repeatedly failed to do so. There simply isn't enough fans interested.
however if the club were to 'fail' I would hope that a championship club could be formed from its ashes, either within London, or in a smaller town around London, so that the development work could continue. With the aim of becoming a SL club again once a bigger fan base has been established.

Maybe that's the point, London doesn't need one top flight club, it actually needs two ?
How can you have 'local' rivals that are 200 miles away or in the South Of France ?

| Perhaps this is also where we should be looking at the RFL for the way the TV contract is dealt with.
Currently, the top flight clubs carve up an equal share of the cake between themselves.
Perhaps, next time, we should be looking at how Aussie Rules does it ? They have something like a 75 / 25 split between the clubs and the AFL itself. They then take the 25% and invest it. The proceeds and profits are then used to fund clubs in similar situation to London, however as part of the acceptance process, the club taking the money basically has to put the administration of the club in to the hands of AFL-approved board members.
Maybe we should be looking at the TV monies being split as one share for each SL club, two shares for NL1, one share for NL 2 and one share for the RFL ?

| If that's so how did RFL make a profit? Equal share my anus, how dud Cru rise from ashes to sign up 20+ NRL players?
Yea add another London club another drop in Quins crowds... Why not have 5 and see if that works?
It's not working as there is no outside investment!
