I picked current Test Props and Hooker with a couple of second rowers, they are not random selections.

Clubs publish the size of the players and as I said to suggest they are larger or more physical in England is a dumb argument.
They are not bigger, the backs at top level are smaller, fact.

Unless "phyical" means something else in England like cheap headshots with little or no punishment I don't agree.
Matt King has felt the physical side of the game when he was knocked senseless.

The Aussies that have struggled are mainly second stringers or pension packages like Ridddell, the expectations on average Joe's that get imported are unrealistic.
Not struggled that much that they are left out of the team.

Two years ago O'Meley was great. He ripped in, he was one of the better props in the game.


Now.....he is not making the Roosters first grade side, and they are in last place!

The more experiences players help the young players to develop; passing on their experience etc which coaches do not have in that specialist field

And if you are buying the likes of Mark O'Meley to teach anyone anything....I have some bad news for you.

How can you say that the development system is non-existent ?

Richard and Graeme Horne / Tom Briscoe / Kirk Yeaman / Tommy Lee / Danny Houghton / Paul King / Mike Burnett / Danny Washbrook / Josh Hodgson / Lee Radford all have been developed through the FC academy and played for FC this season

O'Meley's experience playing for Aus etc will be invaluable for a player who has played mostly NL1 and little SL

Still obsessed about the English game.

Hmmm, interesting one. He has been playing reserve grade this year in a poor Roosters side so either he has massively fallen out with the coach or he has lost it big time. Maybe the change will be good for him, could be a great signing or could be another Spud Carrol.

Generally Hull's signings are better but the age of Long and Fitzgibbon must be a concern and the lack of form of O'Meley also. Tansey is probably the surest bet to do OK out of the 4 I would say.

The problem is, Im sure Hull fans think they are signing the Mark O'Mealy from a few years ago, unfortunately they are getting an injured player that is a shadow of him former self , I just hope they arent paying him too much.

I don't understand this signing. Hull must have seen something that everyone else doesn't because he looks shot to me.

Its not about jumping up and down; you stated we are signing Australians instead of developing our own players - i proved we develop more players than half of the teams in super league - Richard Horne / Yeaman / Washbrook / Houghton are all quality players

hmm think you'd win that one. Then again having just looked at the St Mary's website it isn't that impressive a line up of players! Not many that have gone on to be Int's in the last 30 years.

Eh? its Ok having 'homegrown' players but they have to be good for it to count, unfortunately hull fc's homegorwn don't appear to be cutting the mustard. And unfortunately LF is pretty much on the money.

How many Internationals have come through the Hull FC system?? Yeaman and who else? Horne? who was totally out of his depth!

Its also scary for the sake of british RL that a signing like O'Mealy is seen as 'excellent'.

Tom Briscoe is in the Elite Squad. Reckon Washbrook could be in with a shout at some point.

Not that being picked for GB/England necessarily means that you're a great player, or missing out means that you aren't. Over the years there have been some very odd choices.
