| Quote ="Pepe"Why are you slagging off Widnes?
It’s not our fault the RFL have said a club from the Championship will be promoted to SL, at the probable expense of a current SL club. '"
Nobody is slagging off Widnes, not deliberately anyway. It is very difficult for people to put across a point to someone when he is determined to twist every single thing you say to suit his intension, which everybody knows is just to cause mischief. It is not Cas nor Wakeys fault that you are not in SL either. Cas got relegated twice and beat everything in front of them twice to get where they are, Wakey have never been relegated from SL that is why they are there. Salford and Crusaders are in SL because they were the top 2 teams in the league and got there on merit, maybe next time it might be Widnes's turn last season they were not as good as some in the nl1 or whatever its called, if they do get in SL will it be because they are good enough or because they have posh toilets', that is not slagging off Widnes btw just my opinion

No, he was slagging Widnes off. He, like you, are over simplifying the licence criteria and process, in an attempt to undermine and misrepresent what Widnes actually have to offer.
There also seems to be a complete misunderstanding of what the licence process actually is. Where a club finishes at the end of the season is just one part of that process. The whole package is what is being viewed here, so whether a club gets a licence or not, isn’t soley based on league position.
The lower salary cap in the Championship means more clubs can compete with what are much larger clubs. This position is now increased with an even lower Championship cap of £300,000. So the club that finishes top may not be the best club to give a licence to, due to a possible host of different reasons. Celtic Crusaders contested the Grand Final and could have won it. They only lasted one disastrous season after being given a licence.
Obviously, this is a very different situation from P&R

| I can't see either Wakey or Cas getting kicked out for anything to do with playing performance, youth development, community work, salary cap breaches or insolvency. The only thing that puts them at risk is the lack of a shiny new stadium (and the stadium criteria are probably more suitbale to stadia wanting to host League 1 or 2 football matches than what SL FANS actually want - but that's a whole different subject).
Salford & Crusaders NEED to improve greatly because the although it's no longer P&R based on league performance, it will still be something that is considered & based on last year's performances they have their work cut out. Salford have their own issues with the stadium requirements, while Crusaders move to a football ground that is just outside the proximity criteria (thereby gaining them 2 points) is clearly a cynical attempt to retain a SL franchise on the cheap. Once you add in no salary cap breach, solvency & no doubt by next year enough of the first team squad to meet the homegrown player requirements they're on the verge of a B licence FFS.
If they'd stayed in Bridgend, Crusaders would almost certainly have failed to meet the stadium requirements and probably wouldn't have stayed solvent. At best they'd have got no more than 3 points and if any side deserves to be kicked out of SL it's them, with Widnes being the side replacing them.

It seems strange to criticise crusaders for doing what we want them to do, and then calling it a cynical attempt to gain a franchise. Is Wakefields proposed move to Stanley simply a cynical attempt to gain a license?
even stranger to say they deserve being kicked out for swapping things that werent working for things that may

they could have crowds of 3000, play in a poor ground and theyd still be in SL due to expansion

i mentioned widnes financial position, sponsor, ability to spend full SC.
the new ground and crowds are v.important though
as is the history of the club being a strong one (ie like hull kr)

www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2010/ja ... o-12-teams
Going back to 12 teams would really set the cat amongst the pigeons. Some people are getting a bit miffed at the thought of Widnes getting a place in a 14 team league, imagine the uproar there would be if Cas, Wakey and Salford were dumped in favour of Widnes?
For what its worth, despite the concerns, I think we should stick at 14 teams. I thought one of the keys to international success was to increase the player pool playing at the top level. Cutting the teams down surely means less players to choose from?

| Agreed, I can see no reason to reduce. 14 seems a good number for now. There are a number of criteria clubs need to meet, if they don;t boot them, whoever they are.
