| That's what I got told on another forum. Btw congrat's to the French. But also proud of the fighting Irish would love to see how they would go with a fully professional team go eventually (hint, hint Dublin )

| When was the last time a France team got anywhere near that attendance for an international against a major RL nation? 14,000 against Ireland is absolutely fantastic if thats the true case

| Apparently the capacity for that stadium is 17,518.
I can happily accept there being 3,000 empty seats, the place looked pretty full.

That is simply fantastic news, just goes to show that international Rugby League can be a draw (without 'star' names). I am sure the French enjoyed that game at least as much a being well beaten last Autumn

| Ireland were maybe a Ben harrison and Chris Bridge ( plus Richards and Blanch) away from being competitive.
Thanks Bridge and Harrison for deciding to become English. and thanks to Tony Smith and the RFL for helping to undermine international Rugby league.

| Simon Finnigan
Pat Richards
Dave Allen
Damian Blanch
All missing for Ireland, then the likes of Ben Harrison and Chris Bridge have opted for England.
If all the above were available that would have been a very good contest today.

20k against England in Narbonne, 1980 - decider of the European Championship.
14125 is the announced figure and seems perfectly accurate. Looked like a great atmosphere too. They had put a fair bit of work into this game - leaflets around Vaucluse, trips organised by junior RL clubs etc. I did hear rumours that the tv had threatened to stop showing internationals if the crowd was under 10k, so maybe that encouraged the federation to pull their finger out.
To put it in perspective, the very hyped Arles-Avignon vs Mille football game at the same ground got 15k the other week (local derby against the biggest team in French soccer).

That raises such an important point though
France vs. Ireland attracts decent attendances in Union and maybe the French public are interested in international Rugby League rather than just watching the world's best players beat their national team by 40+ points
France doing well in this European competition will be better for international league in France than them getting a good hiding three times last Autumn

Probaly because they were played in Paris (or at least the Aussie game was) well outside the French RL heartlands. And as stated above maybe the French didn't want to pay to watch them getting hammered. At least against the Irish they had a good chance to win.

At this stage absolutely, and when the current French systems improves, as it is doing, then at last the French will be able to use their natural flair and give the so called "better" teams a game.

Sure, but that French side was also far from our first choice 17. Greenshields, Mounis, Gossard and Bosc are all out of the tournament on injury.

| All those shouting for an irish SL side i would forget it as this wasnt even a full strength frog side, going back to the point of crowds over in SL lower sides still turn out when they know there going to get beat heavily by a top side.
