I wouldn't have a problem if Crusaders and Catalans were to follow the same quota rules as the other teams.

I agree with you. I don't think people would have as many issues with the expansion clubs if they played by the same rules as everyone else.

That would be fine had the rules not being set up to benefit everybody else.

Things like the quota and the salary cap (things heartland clubs called for) have the unfortunate consequence of putting expansion sides at a disadvantage.

Surely the whole point of being an expansion club, is that they are allowed some leeway in the recruitment rules, to help them expand the areas the game is played in.

Why do quota rules put expansion sides at a disadvantage? Surely allowing all clubs to sign the same amount of quota players is fairer than allowing some clubs to have more quota players than others.

Because expansion sides have to build up their own amateur game and they dont have 10 other SL clubs and SL academies on their doorstep meaning that it is more difficult for them to bring their own players through and more difficult for them to bring in players from other sides (who need to move out of their 'comfort zone). The quota and salary cap have the combined effect of making it more difficult to build a team of requisite quality of British players.

besides, Wakefield in their 7th year of super league fielded a side containing Halpenny, Demetriou, Tadulala, Evans, Henderson, Jeffries, Watene, Obst, Korkidas, Solomona, Macgillivary, Betham, Catic, and Leo-Latu, thats 14 overseas players, in one game, in their 7th year of SL, a team in the heartlands, with apparently one of the strongest amateur set ups in the country on its doorstep, and three clubs producing players on their doorstep and they needed 14 in their 7th year playing together. Which is more overseas players than Crusaders in their third year have in their entire squad.
