| Quote ="Alffi_7"Correct, SBW and Luetele will obviously count for their £150k per year, but nothing more than that. They are overpaying average players, which is always the case when you have a club in the championship / bottom of SL trying to spend big to sign the best - players want to be paid more to play for lower placed clubs.
I think the complaint is that players have to house themselves in Toronto, as well as pay for a house back home in the UK as the families aren't going to move to Toronto full time given the players are in the UK more than half the time anyway. I understand the argument, but it will be a tough one to get the SL chairmen to agree on. When Catalan play games in the UK I presume the cost of housing them in hotels will be classed as an operating expense and not a perk. The RFL obviously classify the Toronto situation differently as they will be living there for a number of weeks and it is there home patch.'"
Yep. And there is kind of a precedent with a London allowance being present in the salary cap rules. So maybe something similar could be afforded overseas clubs too.
I believe the London Allowance is 10%.

Catalan were around 25% to the good with their "preferential" exchange rate.
Mind you, in order to spend "extra", the overseas clubs still need to generate the cash in the first place.
Does anyone know how big the season on season "hole" is at Toronto £3 million ??

The exchange rate is swings and roundabouts. If the value of the pound increases vs the Euro after its next set for Catalans they’ll obviously struggle.
If we have a London Allowance in recognition of significantly higher costs for 1 team that is effectively out of their control I don’t see why Toronto or Catalans shouldn’t get some kind of allowance either.
Or do away with the London Allowance too. Either we recognise specific circumstances or we don’t.
I also think people are massively overreacting to McDermotts comments. If they’re the ones I’ve seen I don’t see a whinge. Merely a statement of where they are.

That is hilarious. Coming from a guy who ran to the press to moan about his own players when they got mullered by Warrington. You couldn’t make it up

| Quote ="Nothus"This is going to be more of a recurring issue so long as the championship continues to become more and more competitive at the top of the table.
I have no idea how much the likes of Leigh, Toulouse, London and Featherstone are spending at the minute but the more and more they push each other, the higher their wage bill will rise and when they get promoted they will find themselves with less and less room to maneuver under the cap.
In Toronto's case they just went all out last season and clearly spent big to make sure they got promoted. And now they're stuck with the same players and no room on the cap.'"
I'm sure your right TWP broke their necks as well as the bank to get promotion to SL. If Superleague don't want them which they don't, then it appears Argylle is going to make it very hard for Superleague when they eventually get rid of TWP first chance being the new TV deal. No TWP inclusion will reflect badly on Superleague because most people still think they are "growth" and will accuse SL of being parochial.
It is still hard to believe that TWP left themselves so badly short on numbers though, they may be architects of their own downfall this year. I assume that they may have banked on loans? I assume few players will go out on loan seem as how all the English clubs have to run reserves now. I almost think that the Reserves league was rushed in to keep as many players here as possible!

Not just you, I would agree - Everything Pearson has said is bang on IMO, still nobody likes talking the hard facts on Toronoto, they would rather talk about these fairy tales where tickets touts are selling Toronto tickets outside of the ground at $200.

| If the cap is live, i’m not clear on why dispensations are required for players who are de-registered. Rovers are apparently under the cap anyway.
I’m in favour of P&R, and the rules are the rules. However, it is a massive and massively difficult gap to bridge in either direction.

I’ve got some sympathy for his broad ‘stop moaning’ theme, although it is a difficult point to make without moaning yourself. I think he distracts/detracts from his argument by conflating cap space with the money spent on SBW because they’re different issues.
The BetFred thing is a personal belief vs contractual obligation matter. Outside of that, concerns over gambling companies sponsorship in sports does seem to be growing. And I vaguely recall SL having turned down another offer in the past, so it is clearly an issue where there’s a diversity of opinion.

To get SBW in on a marquee spot didn't they have to move Lussick out of a marquee spot? That shifted his enormous salary onto the the cap (probably at least an additional £150k (on top of the £150k already counted) judging by Lutele's salary). So directly and indirectly, the signing of SBW will have limited their cap space significantly.

That wasnt let in. They got promoted through the divisions.
Pearson can also go himself by bringing up the betfred/SBW thing.
SBW has no obligation to Betfred and if he doesnt want to wear a top with the betfred logo printed on it then that should be respected.

Yes this is how I see it. Lussick was the marquee player before SBW.
So really they need to get shut of either Leutele or Lussick to free up some cap room.
I suspect that some of the players they currently have are not really up to Super League, which ones will become clear after a few weeks.

That is a fair point, but not one made directly by Pearson, or at least not in what is reported in the Hull Daily Mail.
To be fair they’re not going to many hits making fine, nuanced points like that in their articles.
