Are you not even a little bit concerned that this might happen?
I don't really have a problem with the guy. I don't agree with the brash way that he goes about his business but that's just how he is. Ateotd any investment in our sport is good.
However this is a guy who is new to the sport and has no prior affiliation to the club or area. What happens if 3 years down the line Salford are still scrapping to get in the playoffs? Is he likely to get fed up and want out? Or what if a bigger club becomes available?
And before you mention Adam Pearson, Hull can look after themselves if he pulled the plug. Salford are going to be in the hands of one man. If he ever did walk you would be stuck with a wage bill that just isn't serviceable and you would be in big trouble.
The guy does seem to genuinely enjoy what he's doing, so who knows, you might end up as the next big superpower. But I know if I was a Salford fan I would be a little concerned.

Absolute worst case, they're back where they were when he rode to the rescue.
They might as well enjoy it as much as they can for as long as it lasts - the longer the better, obviously. Exciting times to be a Salford fan.

He has said since day one that he plans to make the club sustainable in the long term without his handouts. He has spoken of a desire to develop income generating schemes on the land around the stadium that will yield revenue for the club into the future. We may hear more about that on Thursday. He may have been naive with some of his comments since arriving, but I don't think he's under any illusions about the task he took on.

Even without the horse, it's not exactly going to be a massive bombshell. I'm still not going to let myself think we've actually got him until Thursday's announcement, but if it happens it'll just be confirming RL's current worst kept secret. Some journalists have been writing on the basis that he's already signed for weeks.

I don't remember Hull FC looking after themselves before the RFL gave them Gateshead.
Anyway,if you listen to the first press conference you may have a clearer picture.
Could you perhaps enlighten me on how you believe Dr Koukash to be brash ?
He wants more investment into the sport which you agree is good.
As he is a businessman why should he want out.Despite the doubters from the word go he has speculated to accumulate by signing players to form a competitive side.
Bigger clubs have been run correctly over a lengthy period of time.He alluded to St Helens on his arrival.
He has willingly taken over a club that has not been run correctly over a lengthy period of time.
It appears the more people who doubt him the more determined he is to prove them wrong and it seems he gets things done as quickly as some of his winning horses run.
A club,worse than any amateur sports club,suddenly feels uber-professional.
Thursday will confirm this.

| Rangi Chase is running in the 13:00 Betfred Salford Red Devils' Foundation E.B.F. Maiden Stakes
Brian Noble is running in the 15:00 Betfred Salford Red Devils' 'Tackle Health' E.B.F. Maiden Stakes
Both at haydock on Thursday
Love him or hate him hes good for the sport. If Salford do become a super power put them with Huddersfield who are going from strength to strength at the moment it turns the BIG 4 into the BIG 6. If the format and structure of the league is sorted out it really could give the game a massive boost.

| I wonder if Rangi Chase and Brian Noble are being paid any 'naming rights' fees for their names to be used?
Of course, one would assume if they were, this would have nothing to do with the Salford Rugby club or their salary cap.

strange that they'd report Salford and then say they "might be" open to offers???

| Ah, so after selling a player to stave off administration, Wakefield are now getting uppity about players being tapped up.
Oh, and they're selling players again.
Anything to be gained?

Hypothetically, just hypothetically, this could happen without anyone who doesn't have access to Rangi Chase's tax affairs knowing anything about it, although it should show up somewhere in Koucash's accounts. Given Koucash's previous use of shell companies I doubt any RL journalist will be smart or hardworking enough to work it out from that end either.
Also hypothetically, it would be possible to sell a valuable share in a racehorse for £1 and not charge for stabling etc without this benefit appearing on any salary cap. Just hypothetically.

| Apologies if this is on another thread, I've not seen it anywhere else, but the Doc today announced that fans of all clubs who buy a season ticket before some date in October (can't remember exactly) will be entered into a draw to win the chance to name one of his horses, get tickets to all of its races for the first year, and get any winnings it makes in its first race.

| Just a thought, re. Salford Red Devils and salary cap.
Is it fesible that Dr K might 'avoid' paying players big wages by offsetting them through giving players (shares in) racehorses and % of winnings ?
Anyway, great announcements at Salford today, I genuinely wish them all the best, in bringing some excitement and razzamatazz back into SL, and (hopefully) a possible contender for 2014 onwards.

No because the value of the shares and winnings would be counted on the cap, in the same way if a club gave a player a car.
Agree on wishing Salford all the best though, hopefully the good doctor will spend his money on building Salford as a club, therefore building rugby league in general. Good for everyone in my view, and adds a bit of excitement!

very feasible. For starters I have always said that Morley will be on minimum pay for the next 12 months while on a playing contract but I would expect that come 2015 when he joins the coaching staff he will get a very nice bonus / wage at that point. Chase and a share in a horse to offset would have no impact on the salary cap. Immoral? debatable. I don't say that just as a Salford fan but anybody who doesn't believe the salary cap has been getting bent around since it's inception is naïve.

As is believing an owner of a club giving a player a share in a racehorse wouldn't count on the cap.

| On the subject of the salary cap, Dr Koukash stated today that Salfords reatined list from this years squad are using up a measly £400k - £500k of the salary cap. By my reckoning that has left Salford with £1.2m + for new signings to take us up to full cap.
