being in favour of expansion means in reality not in theory which has so many impossible conditions that it eliminates expansion clubs from SL.

the RFL has tried 5 expansion clubs : CC, Quins and LC, gateshead, and PSG.

only one has been an outstanding success whilst the others really have some success and some failure.

im happy if the RFL continues trying for top down expansion clubs and can only produce one outstanding success for 5 clubs that arent like that.

theres nothing wrong with trying and failing.

my contention is poor clubs have no one to blame but themselves for being that way

a bit like people on social security rely on the government to survive, they rely on the RFL to survive rather than getting off their backsides and working for it

quite a few clubs have managed to grow from small status to much larger status, especially Huddersfield and Hull KR. if other clubs cant match it, its their fault.

But that takes up somebody's cash and it sends a message to other possible future "investors" .

That's a false dichotomy. You can support Toulouse's inclusion without supporting a bodged rush job. If they meet the playing criteria I'll support their inclusion for 2012, but 2015 is more realistic. I do support their inclusion, but some of us are more patient about these things and don't really care when as long as it happens right.

RL was established as the dominant sport in nsw by 1909, which is well before the pokies came in.

queensland had zero pokie revenues and still RL was number 1.

Catalans I knew would work because there was undisputably the player pool for 1 SL club in France, as shown by performances of French clubs in the Challenge Cup among other things. Toulouse's poor performances in the Championship make this far less clear cut that there is the player pool for 2 teams. If those performances improve they will be better signs of their success in SL.

The only objection I have to Toulouse in 2012 is their on field performance. Expansion*zi trolls don't value this, but if they get 60 points put on them every week they'll leak fans and sponsors like crazy. A half decent Toulouse side in SL should get decent crowds but they won't watch a side as bad as Crusaders this year.

That's not what I said, I said the strength of French players in general, not just one club, but Toulouse being in the Championship means they should be playing the best. UTC did that their last season and won easily and had both them and Pia consistently do well, but their having the best of French players was what matters. The French Elite was also a far higher standard then that it is now
