If you think that's what he meant, then you're either thick or deliberately misunderstanding for trolling purposes.
Reaching the depths Leeds did provided an opportunity for someone with business nouse to acquire control of the club and put it on a sound footing both on and off the field.
Very little of Paul Caddick's money has been directly invested in the Rhinos. Caddick underwrote the clubs debts which the club itself then paid off through increased revenues. If Caddick walked away tomorrow, the club would survive as it is financially self sufficient. That to me is not the definition of a "sugar daddy".'" '"

the salary cap is trying to do what those things above are doing.
the very goal of the salary cap is to stop the strong clubs monopolizing it.
its just more subtle than starting you guys on minus 10.

yes, i have argued frequently that the NRL Salary Cap simply promotes the status quo and that the competitiveness of the NRL is down to the quality of the structure underneath the NRL rather than the SC, which is a poor and blunt instrument for trying to even the competition, the only thing it successfully does is keep costs down

brisbane are the richest RL club in australia.
their revenues are DOUBLE some sydney clubs.
DOUBLE
that they dont win the NRL every year is because of the salary cap.
indeed though being the most succesful club since the 90s, theyve only won 2 grand finals this decade.
thanks for bringing up that club as an example because it is exactly the point im trying to show.
the salary cap can stop the richest clubs from monopolizing the competition

clearly it hasnt, because it doesnt work, its a rubbish tool for what you are attempting to do,
Leeds have the vast majority of their squad, and certainly the spine of it, signed up to long term deals, they arent going to lose them and they arent going to get weaker,
and if we are to bring the league closer it is very very important we do this by making the weak stronger, and not the strong weaker

thats not true.
so wrong.
the salary cap was set at a level which was actually too high initially for a lot of clubs to reach, but eventually every team has gotten there.

the weaker clubs are raising their revenues. but also as the amount the richer clubs can spend is limited then they are catching up in being able to compete with players.
without a cap even if the smaller clubs raised their revenues, more than likely the bigger clubs would also be raising theirs so the gap will always remain.
with the top clubs fixed in what they can spend, its only a matter of time before the smaller clubs reach them in terms of spending power on players.
id say 3 - 5 years every club will be doing it.

manly have strong juniors do they
look ill help you :
Penrith have probably the largest juniors in sydney, around 8000.
Parramatta have heaps as well.
saints have lots as do souths.
Newcastle as an area has heaps as do queensland and nz.
now if you are saying that the eveness of the competition is because all clubs have good juniors, well many dont.
the roosters won the GF in 2002 with hardly any juniors. they buy from other clubs.
manly have signed many good players from other clubs to help them win the GF.
eg jamie lyon who was a parramatta player and mat orford who made his name at melbourne plus steve bell.

it only destroys them, it only stops the game moving on
next year 10 clubs will spend the full cap, 10 clubs will spend the same amount as Leeds and Saint Helens, last year 8 clubs spent that much, 8 clubs spent exactly the same, yet the club in 8th position scored about half the points Leeds and St Helens did.
