| Quote ="Duke Eddington"You need to watch the tackle on Horne, on exactly 29 mins. That was from the side and by the same player. It looks like he is inclined to make these cannonball type tackles and is gonna hurt someone sooner or later. Think he will hear more about it during the week'"
Doing it from behind (Ooooo-eerrrrr) doesn't make it much better. It's still horrible to see a player collapse back over his trapped leg. The upper body cannot fall forward if the player is held, making it incredibly dangerous. It's a sly technique that an honest player, coached responsibly, wouldn't make. It speaks volumes for Maguire era Wigan that their young players use these techniques.

A cannonball tackle is one which attacks a joint against its natural movement, not necessarily one from the side.

Doesn't matter where it's from does it? It's the force of the impact and the weight of the 'chopped', collapsing upper body which isn't able to fall naturally as it's being held, so collapses over the joint.

When did Wigan move to Leigh?
Decent performance from KR and well deserved winners, but Wigan were awful and the game in general wasn't great.

| I noticed the tackle as well, Sam Powell on Horne, dangerous looking tackle. As a Wigan fan I've seen him do this before, pretty sure he was sin binned for it, needs to stamp it out his game.

| Great contest. Bad game.
If you believed what Wiganers come out with, you'd think they've a squad full of world beaters. Most of them are crap.
Dom Crosby aka 'The Turtle' with the amount of time he spends on his back. Total waste of space.
Sarginson crap.
Smith disappears totally under pressure yet again.
Hampshire at full back ? I think we've all seen enough by now to see how much he's struggling defensively.
And what else did we all get the pleasure of witnessing again last night ? Wigan throwing the toys out the pram when things don't go their way. We had the full repertoire: high shots, a knock out, cannonball tackles, Mickey's 'hard man' face, Wane's 'this isn't right' face. Honestly, they're an embarrassment to the sport. Still, their fans don't mind about how this group of would be convicts represent their club and the game.
Well done HKR. Deserved victory.

A cannonball tackle has nothing to do with the angle of the joints - it's about diving in at force below the knee.

| Quote Wigan head coach Shaun Wane told BBC Radio Manchester:
" =#0000BFThe referee didn't control it at all and it gave them a massive advantage.
They were the better team. They came with a game plan and it worked.
=#FF0000We were just a bit dumb today giving the penalties away and not really committing to our plays."
For CONSISTANCY which of the 2 highlighted parts of the comment is true?
Perhaps the almighty Saddened may be put upon to pass his enlightened judgement.
All that aside, it wasn't that good a game. Hull KR played as a team following a simple but effective plan and it paid off.

I thought it wasn't a cannonball if the impact is at the back of the knee?

Having done a bit of research it seems that there's no strict definition. I'd always considered it to be where the knee joints were forced in a direction they don't normally go (mainly from the side) but this was open to interpretation. The NRL definition is now any tackle on a held player where first contact is at the knees or lower regardless of direction. Not sure SL has an 'official' definition TBH - I think it's left to the officials to interpret if it's 'dangerous'.

Quite simply, I'm not wrong but then again I'm not going to be arrogant enough to suggest that your interpretation isn't also correct.

| I need to watch it again, on sky, without emotion attached but that didn't seem like that of a poor quality game. Incredibly predictable how it's always the supposed better side having an off day being the only reason Rovers won. Proper game, proper contest, two commited sides. Give me that any day over turgid woeful defences leading to 40-32 etc scorelines.

We need to bring the NRL rule in. Gets rid of a grey area, reduces risk of serious injury and speeds the tackle up

bit like our game in catalan in 2012, weather played its part in that game, although it was more sweaty conditions due to the heat rather than rain
rovers handled the conditions much better than wigan and deserved to win the game

It also amuses me that other teams imports are praised, any Wigan have are condemned... The bitterness really makes me chuckle, because those who are, think it bothers us, when we actually enjoy it..

Unfortunately, it's what happens when a club with such a rich history, along with the success Wigan have enjoyed over many, many years, fall at an unexpected hurdle.
It's a shame other RL fans feel the need to continually denigrate greatness, instead of appreciating it.

WE are used to teams playing awful against us to be fair. I mean every defeat by HKR its 100% guaranteed on the Hull forum they played badly. Long may it last that teams play awful against us.

Yes. Your site's liberal moderating policy is a clear indication of how much you enjoy criticism.
