| Does anyone else get a little bored with a flood of stadium announcements just before 'decisions' are to be made where the state of a stadium might just come into it. It happened at the beginning of SL, it happened 3 years ago and its happening again................................AND ITS EXACTLY THE SAME CLUBS.

| Isn't it too late in the day for new stadia now where the 2012 licences are concerned?Even if clubs have cast iron plans, even if work is underway, won't their current grounds be graded,as Leigh in 2008?Even though they had seats in the stands and showers in the changing rooms at LSV the RFL still appraised their bid based on Hilton Park.

The announcements are because there has been a lot of local manoevring. Both clubs are aware of the deadline, and that is why both clubs have a sense of urgency, and both clubs know that no progress will not be accepted. If the spade has hit the dirt for both clubs, on land that has passed all planning stages with the funding packages in place, there is no reason why the RFL can't take plans into account. They will be doing that with Saints. If building starts before the franchise applications are decided on, the stadium will be complete by 2012. One thing is for sure: Wakefield will not be at Belle Vue in 2012.

The wakey one won't be owned by us. It will be a community stadium with us as anchor tenants. The funding is I believe a combination of grants from various sources, some of the proceeds from the sale of Belle Vue and the Developer is to cover the balance (on the basis that the whole development planned for the site gets pp

I can think of one reason,Leigh Sporting Village July 2008.As I said previously, that ground was practically complete. No plans,no promises, just concrete, bricks and mortar. But their current Hilton Park home was the one graded.I don't know how the RFL can be expected to give an appraisal on a stadium based on drawings given the precedent they themselves set.

They probably won't. They won't get that criteria point and they will concentrate on other areas of the franchise bid.

Did they? Seems strange then that half of [url=http://www.superleague.co.uk/page.php?id=375the RFL's summary[/url of Leigh's bid talks about the new stadium. Why mention something that wasn't considered as part of the bid?

Old news mate. Alot of the stuff is NIMBY's who haven't read the plans reacting to scaremongering by a local business who have set up a website detailing a whole host of supposed issues, alot of which are just plain wrong.
There is a six lane motorway between the proposed site and Leeds area, so all this rubbish from Leeds Council about ruining greenbelt is a joke, particularly as the land is a former pit site and is shortly to be reclassified anyway.
The developer and the community trust remain confident that with support from the council the outline planning should be approved. We already have some work done on the detailed planning, so that should be able to go in relatively quickly once the outline has got the nod. I believe the outline is due to be heard in September (next WDMC planning meeting) and so should know the outcome by then.
The general consensus is that the government will not want to waste time and money on a public inquiry and will likely leave the matter to be decided at a local level (which is in line with their "Big Society" plans)

Exactly right there, the ground was almost complete when we got shafted by lairs from South Wales and Salford. Celtic went t1ts up and Salford moved a bit of dirt and then laughed their heads off when their plan worked, now they're doing the same again, will it be built now, yes, but not quite the state of the art one, they orgianlly planned, and it certainly wont be ready for the 2012 season, going off when ours was started and when we actually played there.
The RFL should have actually said, that to be in SL2012 the grounds had to meet a certain criteria no matter where it was or which club it was, least play fair for once.

And in 2008, when you submitted your licence application? (genuine question)
