No there wouldn't , but there would still be probably a top league of 12 teams , some F/T and some P/T

Highly unlikely. The sport was on the brink of collapse in 1995 when the SL proposal was made.

Its time for a big change, SKY has too much influence on the game, The RFL perform as Gimmicky Amateurs, too many overseas players killing development, no international status, mystic meg referees.

The british game needs a complete overall, Richard Lewis ruined british tennis sport, looks as though he put us down the same path with Rugby League.

when league first came about way back when league did take hold in wales, so much so the RFU turned a blind eye to miners getting paid broken time to play union so that they stayed with the code. if its done it once it can do it again now pipe down idiot and return to your village they must be missing you

Absolutely hilarious idea that league could survive in anything like its current form without TV money. I suspect all current SL sides would be immediately bankrupted were the TV money to cease. Keep 'em coming I say.

no the wouldn't, they would just cut their cloth accordingly and go back to mainly P/T. At least the NRL would be able to match salary payments! When a team got relegated they simply reduced their expenses to match their income, the same would happen if TV grants finished. You think it would be any different in the NRL? Try taking $4mill off Cronulla or Newcastle and see how long they would last.

True but nothing like its current status or form, which is what was implied.
Sometimes I don't think enough credit goes to teams who have skyrocketed both on and off the field in recent years (SL days).
I personally feel clubs like Leigh, Widnes and Halifax are in far better positions than they were 15 years ago financially and off the field, let alone what teams like Hull, Hudds, Kr, Wire have achieved while in Super League. The only issue is imo the gap is getting bigger and bigger between SL and championship level because of the money flooding in and the development

So they say.The game was in a much healthier position in 1995 than it was in the early seventies when even the top clubs struggled to pull in 6000 and it(the sport) survived.Many cup finals and semis had sub 6000 crowds during that era.I am not for one moment suggesting the Sky deal should have been declined but I think saying the game was on the brink of collapse is a bit OTT.

I seem to recall hearing that our debts amounted to £800,000. If that's correct, I doubt we were atypical.

But, then again, I never new what every borough in London thought of the Stoop...let alone the prevailing wisdom of itinerant Aussies drinking cider and black, so I'll bow to your greater knowledge...
