| Quote ="MadDogg"There are some truly embarrassing comments in this thread.
The idea of the World Club Series is for Super League fans to get behind all participating English clubs against Australian opposition. How will an expanded competition become sustainable if this doesn't happen?
Instead people insist on taking petty, schoolboy jabs at =#FF0000a Wigan side who put in a phenomenal effort there.
No team would have been able to play great rugby on that pitch. It inevitably turned into a forward battle and Wigan struggled to make the ground Brisbane did due to smaller and younger forwards.
Very proud of them and unlike some very sad people, I will continue to cheer on other participating English teams by pulling for Saints tomorrow.'"
Really? The 2nd best side in the SL against the 8th best side in the NRL. Wigan had home stadium, home crowd, english rules, english ref, english weather. Wigan are in mid season whilst the NRL doesn't start for another few weeks.
IMO Wigan (and Wire) should be winning comfortably. Brisbane were nothing special at all tonight and they still looked far better than Wigan. Fitter too which shouldn't be the case at this point in the season. No wonder we never beat the Aussies!
Phenomenal effort?? Not for me

Even if it's through gritted teeth I wanted a British win.
That said, I couldn't help chuckling at Wigan's crawpy breaks. Especially since they were being absolutely mullered at the line of scrimmage.

Personally wouldn't ever cheer any Aussie team against an English one, not even in tiddlywinks.

| I don't get this supporting of the Ausie sides,
At every opportunity they deride and ridicule us, they inflict their air of superiority on us in every comment, every article and every post on a forum.
They're record in cricket and Rugby League over the past 30 years pales in comparison with their World class sledging.
They cheat, stack the cards in their favour, diminish our achievements when they lose to us and big themselves up when they win.
I'm even, unrealistically disappointed that Sam Burgess has said he's supporting the Rabitohs tomorrow.
In this precise order:
Wakefield - West Yorkshire - Yorkshire - The North - England - Great Britain - Europe - Northern Hemisphere - The planet excluding Australia if it were possible.

| How many have actually said that they're supporting the Aussies?
People seem to be confusing posters criticising Wigan's performance for supporting Brisbane.

| On that pitch I expected Brisbane to really tire given it was their first hit out really. But Wigan looked much more tired towards the end, I can see them getting turned over next week because that game will have really taken its toll on the legs.
It's hard to read much into the game given the pitch, but the Wigan side I've watched the last three weeks seems a world away from the slick and well drilled Wigan of the last few years. I expect them improve, but so far they haven't looked like a top 4 side.
You could also tell that Brisbane are (comparitivly) much more used to the golden point stuff. Wigan seemed to treat it as a drop goal competition, whereas Brisbane seemed happy just to play normally and wait for a chance.

| Well whatever some of you lot on here think, I thoroughly enjoyed tonight's game; admittedly not for the purists but it was a hard fought game of rugby league between players who will all be nursing bruises tomorrow morning. The sort of game I used to love playing in and wish I still could!

Correct.
The Warrington fans took the criticism of shortcomings from posters in good grace last night, and they were far better as a side on the night.

I totaly agree with your point about Brisbane playing the golden point phase much better than Wigan.
The game was won and lost on two kicks, the first from Smith who went for a very difficult drop goal attempt rather than putting the ball deep into a corner.
The second was from Ben Hunt who in a similar position on the fourth tackle chose to drill the ball deep into Wagans left corner. The subsequent field position they gained meant that any mistake from Wigan would likely cost them the game and so it proved.

| Don't like the Aussies but would always support them against the petulant goons. Always nice to see Elder Ratboy get his knickers in a twist and Phil Clarke need a change of underpants when it gets a little too much for him. The Bradford Tourette is also good value for laughing at, though how he could be penalised for interference when he was stood waiting for his giro was a poor call. It was funny to see the officials fabricating evidence to keep the Aussie on after his "Ah Van" smash, but what do you expect from such cheats. All in all it's a good night when Wigan suffer.

I would suggest Leeds were suffering more through not even taking part.

| I don't think the gap is that big. The problem tonight was Wane's lunatic recruitment strategy.
He's hopelessly overbalanced on mobility over power.
Brisbane's forwards have probably never made easier yardage. They must be wondering whether they were packing down against centres.

| Some very bitter fans in the world of Rugby League isn't there? Absolutely no way will I be wanting the Aussies to beat Saints tomorrow, and anyone with that sort of mentality needs to give their head a wobble. But then this is the community of fans who boo at England games isn't it?

Nah we've played in 6 of them in the last 10 years in games that actually mattered who won, actually won some of them too......you must not remember what that is like over there
Would rather we hadn't knackered our team out in an important season with the new Top 4 format for a friendly......history suggests the WCC games catch up with the English sides at some point during the year, whether it be soon after or years end.

I dunno, had Burgess not made that awful error in front of the sticks the game had every chance of finishing 12-6 in our favour, regardless of our pack size.
It will be interesting to see the stats because we made 40+ metres per set on a number of occasions.

Taking part in an exhibition game? No chance would rather the players have the week off if I'm 100% honest.

| As a match of "THE GREATEST GAME ON EARTH" (which should be trademarked) it was excellent entertainment as was the game between wire and the dragons.
If you believe differently, I suggest that Rugby League is not the sport for you.

| Went to the game supporting the British dog in the fight and enjoyed it for what it was - a tough, intense battle.
Both sides lacking a bit of timing but showing plenty of bottle.
Have enjoyed both games, hope tomorrow is also in the balance with five minutes to play but fear the worst.
