| Quote ="SmokeyTA"Because of course, if were to have the team in 12th relegated, and a top 5 play-off system, this major structural change will highlight the importance of a game between 8th and 10th. '"
Interesting spin that.
Another way of looking at it is if it were a 12 team league with relegation and a 5 team play off it would be a really interesting and important game with Hull 4pts behind 5th spot and Bradford 2 pts above 12th.
That sounds a belting game to me now.

It possibly would be, if we forgot how it worked in a 12 team, top 5 league. Under a 12 team league, no team to finish 12th ever scored more than 16 points. Bradford already have 16 points. They would be safe.
And Hull Fc would need ALL of Catalans, Hull KR, Saints to lose half of their remaining games (saints and Les Catalans play each other as well making it even more difficult) whilst Hull FC won all 6 of their remaining games for them to qualify, a pretty unlikely sequences of events.
It would be a mid-table dead rubber.
Besides, the more obvious question is, why, If Hull being 4 points from the play-offs is exciting, Bradford being 4 points off the play-offs (as they are now) isnt just as exciting? and Why if Bradford being 2 points ahead of 12th is exciting, Hull FC being only 1 point ahead of 9th isnt?

But Bradford wouldn't be on 16 points, take away the points they have against the bottom 2 teams and they would be on 10 points. They wouldn't be safe.
And Hull wouldn't need Catalans, Hull KR and Saints to lose half of their remaining games, that's rubbish. They play Hull KR & Saints, which would put them above Saints and only 2 pts behind KR. All it would take is this weekend Catalans lose and Hull win and they're right in it.
Bradford being 4 poiints off the playoffs now isn't as exciting because, with respect, they're a poor team and in a rebuilding period. A team good enough to get into 5th is good enough to have a go in the playoffs, Hull have proved already this year they're a cracking side when at full strength.

| To be honest if you look at SL this weekend and look at what the fixtures would mean if it was 12 teams, 5 team playoff and bottom team relegated:
Bradford v Hull, see above.
Leeds v Wakey: Leeds would have to win to stay in the top 5, Wakey to close the gap on them. In reality, Leeds can rest up, not an important game. Exciting for Wakey as they're in the top 8 if they win.
Huddersfield v Cas. Huddersfield fighting for top spot, Cas fighting for their life. In reality, Huddersfield are still fighting for 1st, to Cas its a freindly.
Wire v Hull KR: Wire fighting for 1st, KR Fighting for playoffs. In reality Wire fighting for 1st, KR are pretty safe in the playoffs.
Saints v Wigan: Not really muchd difference in this game, but I think Saints fans know that even if they do qualify for the playoffs in 8th, bottom half of the table, they are nowhere near good enough to get near the Grand Final.

Hull KR are 5 points from 9th. You have just argued Hull FC would be well in the mix for 5th (which they are 4 points from), it seems very much like clubs are only fighting for things, or not fighting for things when it suits your argument.
Wakefield are 2 points from Hull FC with a game in hand. Hull FC you argued would be challenging for 5th. Yet you are now arguing HKR in 7th are safe?

Actually we only need Catalans and KR to drop 2 games. Our PD is better than both of them. Both have got tough run ins. I think Catalans will win 3 out of 6 and Rovers 2 of 6. This game is important for Hull and not just for consolidating 8th place.
If Hull write off the Wigan away game we need to beat Bradford (a), Widnes (h), Rovers (a), Salford (h) and Saints (h) and that will get 5th imo. Hull will be favourites in all of those games.

| Mr zuchero you think fc will be favourites at rovers away, you might want to go into partnership with Peter barlow giving odds like that PS I will have rovers each way £5..........no scratch that £40 the win

That's the one that will be close on the handicaps, but I would be surprised if the bookies don't make Hull favourites.
And how do you go each way in a two horse race?

You would still need to win 6 in a row though. I don’t think even the most optimistic Hull FC fan realistically would argue they are challenging for 5th right now .

No only 5.
I agree, 6th is probably the target now, but if we do win tomorrow 5th isn't out the window, Salford and Widnes, with respect, should be foregone conclusions, then theres two fairly difficult games to get 5th. If we win our cup semi final however we will just be looking to cling on to 8th I imagine.

Les Catalans are on 24points, if they win 4 and drop 2 as you stated they need to, they would be in 32 points, Hull are on 20, they win 5 they are on 30 points?
Either way, its just not really realistic. I would think it possible if they were just chasing one of the teams, I just can’t see Hull out performing all of St’s, Les Catalans, and HKR, (and Wakefield) to the level needed
