Returning forward Matt James hailed the efforts of a home side who ran out 38-0 winners with a magnificent performance from start to finish.

James, in his first game for more than four months, was one of six Barrow try-scorers in a win that sets up a home clash with Sheffield this week. A brace from Liam Campbell, plus scores from Ned Catic, Liam Harrison, James Coyle and Andy Ballard ensured a complete rout for caretaker coach Dave Clark and his men.

“It was a massive effort from the guys,” said James, who has been out since May with an ankle injury. “Since the last game (the 72-20 defeat by Featherstone) the boys have been training really, really hard and that has shown in the way it has paid off today.

“With the enthusiasm from the guys, it is just easy to come into a team like that, playing with such enthusiasm and desire for each other. We’ve still got a few games to go, but I am thrilled to bits with how it has gone today. We didn’t concede a point, everyone was just working for each other and everyone showed up tonight.”

Barrow had lost their three previous matches – to Dewsbury, Widnes and Featherstone – before yesterday, and James said: “The recent results, they can make or break a team.

“Widnes are no mugs and I don’t think they particularly played badly, we just played really well. It bodes well for the next few rounds.

“We’re not looking to end the season early whatsoever – we want to get through to the final.”

He added: “We have a tight group of players who have really bought into what Dave Clark has brought to the club since he has come back.

“It doesn’t take a genius to realise we have just stuck to what he has told us to do, and that has paid off.
“The players have been really determined to succeed.
“We have shown tonight there is a quality in the team to go anywhere and we don’t fear anybody in the league.”

I dont think there is any arrogance at all amongst Widnes fans regarding Super League. The RFL set a list of criteria of which we listened too and worked really hard to achieve ALL the criteria, one of which was to win a trophy. The obsession with all things Widnes is absurd. What you need is a good dose of the facts. Widnes have the best stadium in the league, are the best supported team in the league, have the best finances in the league and a youth system whereby our youngsters are beating Super League opposition week in week out. It is pointless throwing all your money into a team who beat Widnes 38-0 when everything else about the club is second rate. Its a shame you didnt go yesterday as you may have bumped into a couple of real rugby league fans who represent your club and who made our day enjoyable despite the spanking we got. You must not perceive fact as being arrogant. The only arrogance i have detected is the title of your thread.

precisely! which is why its pointless barrow and widnes fans trying to get one up on each other over who is better etc.

Every team in the championship would get smashed by any team in SL give an even playing field in which both teams played to their potential. Its not rocket science, you think that Barrow team would get anything other than a couple of lucky points in SL then you know very little about the sport at that level.

With regards to the whole SL application process, If you have a problem with it mail the RFL, Widnes RLFC could not give a sh*t. People forget that we are operating at a much smaller cap than we should be because most clubs at this level could not compete with our revenue. How about this, We go back to P&R but the salary cap is scrapped in its current form and we allow all clubs to spend 40% only of their income on Players each year? We would that league season after season. Then what would you be complaining about? its not fair Widnes have more money? More fans? Better sponsors? better corporate facilities?.

If you are going to argue at least make some bleeding Valid points, or how about come up with a better idea. It says something about some people on here as supporters where they take that Barrow performance and see it only as a stick to beat another club with. With regards to on the field performance. Widnes have reached the play off's every year. Appeared in both finals and won one of them in the divisions cup competition. We managed this while running squads at every level possible, with all the expense involved in that and competed at every level to a very good standard. This year we have been dealt some very bad blows, Cullen's tragic loss being the biggest. We also lost our scrum half mid way through the season and have had a major injury crisis, the worst i have ever seen in my time watching the club. Its only through our strength in depth that we have managed as well as we have.

We are operating at a profit with a very professional set up taking us forward, We have Facilities other clubs would love to be playing in and we have potential to take it to the next level.

Now would you mind explaining to me what is so bleeding hard for some of you idiots to understand. I want P&R, but i dont see why my club should have to spend Pittance because teams like Barrow could not compete on an even level should the clubs true strength be required to pay for that team. So why dont you toddle off back to what ever hole you crawled out of, and Enjoy ing against that wall on matchdays. I will be happy watching my Teams Home and away, at multiple levels on different days and doing me proud always while wearing my clubs colours.

What really upsets you is that deep down you know your club will never cut it. A couple of flash in the pan years of success is all you have in you. Enjoy them. And dont forget to thank Oldham for all those players, you owe them one.
