| I think Toronto will win the title within 3 or 4 years.
I was part of the internet forum in 2010 where these guys from Canada talked to the Americans and arranged to play an exhibition game at "War on the Shore" as their first attempt at playing League.
Within 2 or 3 years the Canadian national team was competitive with the American and Jamacian sides and Canada had a thriving comp.
After only 4 years of playing the game they launched the Wolfpack and have now risen through the ranks to the ESL.
It's basically the rise and rise and rise of Canadian Rugby League from a thread on an internet forum to the ESL in 9 years.
The USA comp has been going since 1998, and the Canadians blew them out of the water in no time at all.
I don't know how they have done all this. I thought their first game in New Jersey wouldn't come off because it seemed pretty hard to get a team together to travel to another country to play a game they hadn't played before, but they smashed that, and have smashed every step since.
If I were them, i'd already have the spot picked out for where the 2022 ESL winners trophy will go.

| Salford got to the grand final on the back of an Aussie reject being their one and only decent player. I’m not saying Toronto will, but if they sign SBW there is no reason they can’t be a one man team either and reach the grand final.

You don't get to a Grand Final with only one decent player, you are obviously new to the game.

SBW is not a ball player nor a play, maker. He is a one trick pony in that his offload is effective, but it is all he has.
Toronto will have to adhere to both the cap and the overseas player quota (ie, have a certain number of English/Canadians and a strict limit on Anzacs and Islanders). I have no doubt they will recruit well and will utilise the Marquee signing allowance, but thereafter, quality players will be hard to come by.
I expect to see a few "traditional" sides in the relegation mix in 2020 and Toronto potentially safe by August, but talk of them winning a title in 3 or 4 years is a "stretch" at best.
I hope they stay up as they were ruining the Championship for the rest of the sides. They are a SL club with a wealthy backer and it'll be interesting to see if they can tempt top tier English players to Toronto, because with the best will in the world, the squad that got them up, won't keep them up!

Now now. No need for the gratuitous condescension against a fellow forum member who is expressing a legitimate opinion.
By the time that Toronto wins the Grand Final in 2022, Jackson Hastings' freakish Salford will be a fading memory, having long been relegated to the Championship in good order.

You are correct mate, I should try your tactic of 'belittling' clubs, rather than the poster.
p.s. Excellent English by the way, considering your French !

I was lucky enough to have been educated in an International School, where the education was bilingual, so my English is excellent, as you say.
Thanks for noticing.
P.S. You should have written "you're French," as in "you are French," not "your French."

| What part of these Canadian guys smashing every target they set themselves and making the top grade has people thinking they'll tank next year?
I don't know what steps they are taking, and I don't think anyone on here does either, but I'm pretty confident they have been thinking about this for a few years and have a plan.

Do you expect there to be after 3 years?
After all Wakefield had what 3? homegrown players in their 19 man squad for the last game v London?
And Wakefield are better than plenty of clubs at developing players.

And your point against Wakefield is what exactly?, maybe it's because you think we don't have any home grown players to call on, or maybe it's because we chose not to play them in what turned out to be our most important game of the season.

His point was not anti Wakefield, in fact he praised them.
The point was a club off many years and tradition produced 3 players in that line up. Were as the ludites insist on a new club having a top class academy and enough homegrown players to supply a first grade international side.

Not sure why your getting involved in this, yes I saw the back handed compliment he gave the club, but my point was why include Wakefield and specifically that game when we were fighting for our SL existence without mentioning many other times when we had no choice because of horrific long term injuries when we had to play most of the home grown players.
And before you mention it was in reply to a Wakey fan's comment, Snowies opinion on expansion it is his opinion alone and perhaps not the opinion of all Wakey fans.

Why Wakefield?
You could pick many teams don't take it personally. How many Featherstone players were homegrown in the final?

My point isn’t specifically anti-Wakefield in fact I said they were better than plenty of clubs.
The point was that if a club that is better then plenty of clubs at developing players can only play 3 or 4 homegrown players in their most important game of the season it’s unreasonable to expect a new club to have homegrown players of the right standard in their squad.
I appreciate that may not have been Snowie’s intent with his message and so wasn’t really meant against him however that argument has been used consistently as a stick with which to beat Toronto despite the “heartland” clubs not having many homegrown players themselves.
Some Featherstone fans were quick to have a go at Toronto for this despite having only 4? in their team vs Toronto. Some Widnes fans also earlier in the year despite a similar amount of homegrown players.

How many players are playing the game that Wakefield and Featherstone have produced from their local areas? Whether they are specifically playing in a Wakefield of Featherstone jersey is a moot point imo.

| If Toronto signs Sonny Bill Williams, and Gold Coast Titans half back Ryley Jacks (who is eligible for the Canadian national team), and one good NRL prop to replace Ashton Sims, then Toronto will have a good chance of making the Super League playoffs in 2020.
Joshua Reynolds of Wests Tigers is also available to play in the halves.

| I think this year proved that there is not a huge gap between most teams, so if Toronto can match the majority of teams they too could be 4 points from relegation or 4 points from the playoffs.
I can't see them being comfortably in the playoff position but anyone trying to call next season already would be a little bit foolish.
