a new stadium is v.important but having fans in that stadium is just as important

then theres the ability of the club to spend full salary cap ie business plan. this means sponsorships, sugar daddies etc.

good buisness plans; all clubs have good buisness plans, come on pal the salary cap is there for one reason only and that is to stop clubs going into financial meltdown year on year on year.lets be honest here take out wigan leeds and hull and not one club matches your idea of a SL franchise

not every club spends the full salary cap.

the RFL is looking for clubs that can go in SL and spend the full cap

the more clubs that do it, the more competitive SL is.

clubs like wakey that arent growing arent adding to SL

what needs to happen is for clubs to get into SL, and without fear of relegation go about building themselves up properly

if clubs cant grow and they are at a low level, theyve got to be kicked out

the business plan shows where a club will gets its income from.

what to look for :

1. sponsor - if they are signed up, this is guaranteed
2. estimated crowds in SL - are these realistic
3. presence of sugar daddy - can he support the club year in year out
4. other income sources
5. own ground, rent etc.

eg widnes -

1. id say estimated SL crowds of 6000 in year 1, growing to 8000 - 10,000 in year 3.
2. rich sugar daddy
3. what kind of rent do they pay at the halton stadium

over a 3 - 5 year period widnes in SL should be able to spend the full salary cap ie add to the competition.

Where is your evidence that Wakefield are not growing an the aspects required for franchise, both independently and by comparison to other clubs.

does your logic stack up to analysis... Widnes spent 3 or 4 years in superleague... did the crowds/ income/ etc grow in that time... as your argument predicts?

they have stronger sponsorship
the abolition of relegation means clubs can build up slowly in SL rather than spending everything ensuring they dont get relegated in year 1.

I think so yes! the three sides were built during the 90s and the fourth was... I am sure... there for the SL period. (I went there before they were promoted but not after) And whilst the stadium is quite nice... the area around the ground is abysmal ... half the problem with developing existing sites...


that said Wides have been wrongly( IMO) excluded from the higher leagues twice now in their history... and they deserve the chance.

In the last licensing process at least two clubs were highlighted as having an over reliance on "Sugar Daddies" - Think it was Wigan and Huddersfield.

Then you have Mr Sugar Daddy - Leighton Samuel at Celtic Crusaders -- Wow what a success that was!!!

I don't think Stobart were on board beforehand.

Celtic have to, their 'youth' is barely out of dypers, they'd be crucified at SL level.

Sugar daddies are a good thing as long as you aren't asking too much of their pockets. It certainly isn't the be all and end all.
