If thats the case then this is the team i would go with then.No need for two props on the bench.Graham and S Burgess can easily/ like to do 60-70 mins anyway and Sam can step up to prop for a spell (although do think he is best used on the fringes) as can Westwood.
Team looks good.Lets blow them away and makes a statement for next week!

It's certainly the best squad we've had available this tournament. We need to fire for the full 80 mins tomorrow to show we're progressing. There aren't any excuses now. The lads have blown away the cobwebs and showed some good form in patches so we now need to sustain that for longer.
It's all systems go for a good crack at the Kiwis at Wembley if we can do that.

| I'd go with:
1. Sam Tomkins
2. Josh Charnley
3. Kallum Watkins
4. Leroy Cudjoe
5. Ryan Hall
6. Rangi Chase
7. Kevin Sinfield
8. Chris Hill
9. James Roby
10. Sam Burgess
11. Brett Ferres
12. Ben Westwood
13. Sean O'Loughlin
14. James Graham
15. George Burgess
16. Liam Farrell
17. Rob Burrow
Similar sort of set up to last week, spell O'Loughlin and westwood and move burgess into the back row. I don't want us to become overly reliant on Sam Burgess so I'd still run with 4 props, that also gives you an opportunity to keep all of the pack fresh. Burrow over McIlorum, let him run the tired frenchies ragged off the bench.

| Would have preferred Ablett over McIlorum in the 19 as it would have given us a player who can switch to centre if we get any backs issues.

I agree with this, in S. Burgess, G. Burgess, Hill and Graham we have a very strong front row rotation that will keep us moving forward for the full 80 minutes, crucial for the big game(s) to come

| Could be that McIlorum has made the 19 because Burrow is the one slight injury concern with his head injury from last week.
I'd keep Sam Burgess at starting prop and move him to loose later as O'Loughlin still finding full match fitness. The one question for me would be who starts in the other starting prop spot. Have to think ahead to which props will be on when you introduce Burrow and which will be the best ones to have on and how many minutes they'll have done by that point.

Anyone who doesn't more than hold their own against France doesn't deserve to progress. I think Ablett is the only question mark but is preferable over a lightweight Farrell. If Crabtree had been picked ahead of another lightweight, Mossop, he would be in there instead of Ablett, with Westwood having to cover the backs.

I know you seem to want as few Wigan players in the squad as possible but Charnley, McIlorum, Farrell and Mossop are in this week's 19, at least 2 of them will play. Briscoe and Ablett are not in the squad, they won't.

I realise that, it is more a 'who would you pick' thread. I have nothing against the Wigan team, it's your inbred message board I dislike, my only wish is to see England beat win a WC or Beat the Aussies in a series. I would happily have Tomkins, O'L & Charnely in any England team, though I think Charnley is behind Briscoe at the moment despite being the best winger in SL last season. I have never changed my view, which has been proven in this WC IMO, that McIlorum is a flat track one-dimensional bully, Farrell is just too small for an international back row & Mossop has never done anything of note even at SL level apart from coming in third man in a brawl against Saints, belting someone from behind & running away.

| The only thing that changes in relation to Sam Burgess wearing 8 or 13 is who else gets picked around him.
Doesn't change Sam's game one iota IMO.

No dislike there then! Ha.
You said Briscoe and Charnley are equally as good in your team selection, why the change of stance? And how exactly has Briscoe proved he's better then Charnley? He's had the two easier games to play in compared to Charnley and scored 2 in 2 compared to Charnleys 1 against the worlds best team (not his best game though).
As for the others McIlorum was immense against Huddersfield, Leeds and Wire in the play offs. Is that what you call 'flat track bullying'? Lee Mossop was also fantastic in the three games as well and played his way ahead of Crabtree during the play offs.
The only one I'll give you is Liam Farrell, I tend to agree that he's just not big enough for international rugby but I thought superleague rugby may be a push and he's outstanding.

| We shouldn't be trying things at this stage, we pick our best 17.
Plus the fact for individual honours, each player will want to play so no one is going to accepts the, don't worry you are in next time speach. Hall, especially should play every game in the tournament.

I couldn’t pick between Briscoe & Charnley if I was asked which is the best player. I am more than happy we have at least one position where people are arguing over 2 undoubted world class English players for a change, there are no other back positions where we can do that. Charnley was at fault tracking back for the kick against Aus that cost us dear. That lack of concentration lost him his place, Briscoe has done nothing to lose his.
McIlorum is a decent SL player but behind a number of better hookers IMO. He has a great engine but creates nothing. His workrate impressed me in the play offs, nothing else. It was humorous reading those who suggested he should be picked ‘to soften the Aussies up’ before bringing on Roby. I didn’t see Mossop do anything in the play offs, which is the story of his career. He doesn’t play to his size, never hurts in the tackle, never busts a tackle, never makes a break. Ben Flower would have been closer to the team if he had been English – the one Wigan forward who really impressed me.
I agree Farrell was outstanding for the first half of the season. IMO he needs to bulk up to become a prop in the Andy Platt mould where his workrate can be best utilised.

| Mossop was fantastic for us in the play offs. He was aggressive, made good metres and played with good energy. He has frustrated the life out of me at times over the past couple of years though but he doesn't do it often enough and he was the same against the Aussies. He drifts along too often and doesn't grab the game by the horns. He's a very talented player though.
I just can't agree with your analysis of McIlorum. He's an outstanding player and a big game player. He's the total opposite of a flat track bully and he's getting much better at controlling games. I can appreciate Roby is a better player and Burrow brings more off the bench but there isn't another hooker in superleague close to him. He knocked off a couple of pretenders in Lunt and Higham during the play offs.

He plays for the best team in the comp and tackles a lot. That's it. Id have Roby, Lunt and Higham ahead of him.

I note elsewhere you acknowledge McIlorum isn't up to scratch after another mediocre performance. Interesting that the Wigan faithful have moved on to suggesting he has to play the full 80 to do himself justice rather than softening up the opposition. No thanks.
