I have to say that the programme yesterday evening was poor in the extreme.
10 minutes devoted to the state of rugby league and 10 minutes of slanted mis information, without any facts or figures to back up their figures.
Mr Riley should hang his head in shame.
I understood that he was a RL journalist but, based on his gem of a report, Iwould ban him from all RL grounds.
Structured comment backed up with facts would have been ok but, this was nowhere near !

It just made lazy and headline grabbing statements, presented only one side of the story, and frankly made some idiotic statements that didnt even make any sense. It was like reading some posts from the flatcap and whippet brigade on here.

I suspect the irony of where this thread has gone is lost on those that have taken it there.

Ian Lenegan a great loss to London Rugby League - talks a lot of sense but he did not deny the £68 million losses!

82,000 at Twickenham this coming weekend with another 6,000,000+ watching on TV....a long line of sponsors paying top dollar to be associated with them, a small club like sarries commanding 300k MORE A YEAR then the RFL used to get from Engage for sponsoring SL, 40,000+ fans travelling to Aus this year for the Lions....but it's a conspiracy I tell thee.....



Wasps teetered on the edge last year and that was reported across the press....more so than even Bradfods demise......they Rahs get bad press too, but your average bitter RL fan prefers conspiracy theories



London owe about 10.5 million to it's owners since 2006.......they will never see a penny of that money, but it does leave you only looking at 58 million across the restof the comp!

£58m isn't a lot of money. But when Salford can't even pay a 12 month old bill for a Halifax team bus it does take the gloss off the label" super" somewhat.

Not sure there are conspiracy theories but more a feeling of frustration that the BBC chose the launch day to bring the subject up and incredulity that the item was actually called an investigation. It would be good if the BBC held the clubs and RFL to account, and more regularly. That's a good thing. But not on our new season launch and not in such a dismal style.

Can you tell us what you understand about Rugby League finances and where Super League broadly is in trouble? Based on what I've read you don't have a clue.

Little Rich is a Self Confessed Genius supporting a club which is now stable after years of financial mismanagement from David Brook & Stan Ackroyd upwards. He know a lot more than everyone else put together on here and he also is level headed with 2 gigantic chips on his shoulder ensuring safety. He should get out more.

Wakefield, Crusaders and Bradford gone bust in three years. Salford on the brink. That's over a quarter of the current SL clubs. Does that sit comfortably with you? I'm not saying SL is doomed, I'm saying that there is a problem that needs addressing but the first time someone puts their head above the parapet they get it shot off. It shows massive insecurity. Go and talk to the directors and benefactors of these clubs and tell me there isn't a problem. It's not insurmountable but it's there. Deal with it.

Yep - and the lesson is there in Halifax for all to see. Massively reliant on a sugar daddy and when that daddy left the club it was brought to its knees. It will happen again to another club. Benefactors aren't immortal.

Why did that sugar daddy leave again?

Two things:

The fans hacked him off through irrational behaviour.

The "hobby" became too expensive.

It's no co-incidence that he packed in when the asset value of owning players plummeted and with the death of the transfer fee.

Why he left is irrelevant. The results of him leaving isn't. I'm not saying clubs should walk away from SD's but the business model HAS to change. I think Koukash is about to do that at Salford.

I dont think that anyone would mind if there was a programme digging into the finances of RL (or any other sport for that matter) but, this programme clearly didnt manage to do this.
Obviously, the number of clubs that have struggled financially in such a short time is a worry for most RL fans and shouldn't be ignored and i'm sure that Big Nige and his buddies at Red Hall will be looking at such matters

I can understand why London would qualify (advancement of sport in 'new' area etc) but can't see OK Bulls Ltd qualifying for charitable status.

Many NRL clubs have a charity status arm as oart of the organisation. This often does charity work, pays players to work with scumbag kids etc.

The vast majority, if not all, SL & most Championship clubs have some kind of foundation/charity for community work. Nice way of writing off a load of kids who probably just need a helping hand, a bit of decent parenting and a few positive role models in their lives.
