See what you've done there is only use attendances to suit your argument. If you now use Sunday games in your calculations you will find that the average gate in round 3 is down around 700 compared to last year.

Leeds v Salford last year was round 26, 31st August which was a week after challenge cup final appearance for the Rhinos. Most likely a lot better weather then than on Friday.

Well, the corresponding Harlequins v Wakey match was on 31st March last year & was also on T.V.

Whatever the context, I don't think there is anything wrong with fans expressing their concerns at those figures. They are what they are, and they aren't great.

Round 2 in 2012 Catalans game called off and played 14-07-12
Round 3 in 2012 Leeds played World Club Challenege didnt play their rnd 3 fixture until sunny warm weather on 18-06-12

I can't speak for Salford, but what Saints have seen this year is a ballpark 3000 drop off in attendance at Langtree Park for both their home games so far. Judging by the turnout from Hull fans on Friday night, for example, that drop off is by Saints fans, and not away fans. And the turnout from Hudds was pretty decent too.

Our turnout at Widnes was lower than the corresponding fixture last year also, so our away support has also dropped.

In rounds 1 and 3, approx 3000 of the drop off can be accounted for at one club: Saints.

Well spotted but i think the fact i posted in the early hours of Sunday morning BEFORE Sunday's games were played might have something to do with that one.

Just wish i'd checked on who was playing today first (ie. London at home) and i might not have bothered



London were away at Hull in round 3 last year with over 10,000 in attendance compared to being at home today where just over 1000 bothered turning up. Take them out of the equation in 2012/2013 and crowds are well up.

These stats are pointless until London have played away more than once plus their only away game so far was at bloody Huddersfield with only 5000 in attendance. Last year in rounds 2 & 3 they had away games at Wire & Hull with over 10k at each.

I bet if we discard London from both 2012/2013 the averages are actually up.

It's always London's fault. Thankfully they are the keystone in the arch of the Sky deal so that counterbalances any stick they get over attendances. I still think dont't think the Columbo schedule helps.

I think really it has to do with how the fixtures fall and you also have to consider teams chances and hopes for the season as well as form. For example Saints got 600 less this week at home vs Hull than they did vs Hull KR in 2009. But then Saints started 2009 with wins over Wire and Hudds, in 2013 they got smashed by Hudds and limped past Widnes.
