Isn't this bad for the sport? Shouldn't Theo be playing for Catalans? Firstly a better squad in a better environment under a better coaching setup. Secondly the weather is better.

Not really. LMS will be better as a player at St Helens than he would at Harlequins.

double edged sword....i suppose signing french is better than signing aussies and kiwis, but at the present, you want all your best french players playing for catalan. rinaldi has played for 4 super league clubs, guisset 3, and there have been a handful of others, so if they are good enough to play in super league, then it is positive. the more french players we see all through the competition, the better

Catalans can't be simply expected to represent the entire France squad. The more French players playing for English clubs the better as it surely means there's a bigger pool of players to choose from.

Exactly and say if example when this lad comes through at 20/21 Catalan already have a top class French half back partnership (e.g. Gigot & Bosc) then he'd be blocked, at Salford this may not be the case and you get 3 SL French half backs playing weekly rather than 2 (all going well etc etc).

I agree. We have a couple of French lads on trial with Wakey at the moment. One played last week.

I'd rather see some incentives for SL teams to pick up players from the developing international teams (as long as they are committed to them). Bunching up the players from one international team into one franchise will just reduce competition within that national squad long-term and screw over any possibility of internationals or other elite games within the SL season.

I'd love it if all British SL sides got a financial incentive to have a French player in the squad. Not to decimate Cats but to increase the overall number of players. The reason NZ go well isn't just down to the Warriors being in the NRL but having a number of players in every other team as well.

Woiuld certainly benefit the French team.

Ian Lenagan mentioned something similar at the last Fans' Forum at Wigan.
