| Quote ="Wellsy13"Wales is a country. It's not a sovereign country, but a constituent country.
[iA constituent country is a country that is part of a larger entity, such as a sovereign state or supranational body.[/i
In terms of sovereign states, yes we are a part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. But that doesn't mean Wales, England and England are not countries.'"
That is the modern view but bowes is right about what he said pre-1950.
Wales back then did not exist as "country" according to the British government. Scotland and Northern Ireland existed but Wales was treated as an extension of England.
Newport and Gwent generally didn't pass into Welsh hands until 1974 prior to that it was considered to be "Monmouthshire" and part of England. I have an old 1930s map that shows it as being part of England.
Not that this has anything to do with rugby or Crusaders but it just rather illustrates the point that what is considered to be a "nation" is rather point-of-view and subject to change.
Most people don't consider Cornwall to be a nation these days but up til the 19th century it was.

I'm fro Newport and consider myself Welsh. I wasn't born in the 1930's so shove your map.
What has this got to do with anything anyway? Crusaders are in Super League and here to stay.

It's all repeating itself though.
My map has Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia as independent countries. Twenty years ago, they were not.

He may have been right about what happened in the early 20th century, but he was wrong when he said Wales isn't a country. It is. Just not a sovereign country.

That is true, however if the thing you are attempting is not the most desired option then the chances of being successful are somewhat diminished.
Playing for a year "on the road" may be possible, making some money from it may be possible but it's not really helpful if you are trying to establish a home and generate a loyal following that will buy season tickets and becomes regular supporters is it?
I would imagine that, if this happens, then many of the current supporters will be put off. Some may even be lost completely to the club and the game.

What is a non-sovereign country and why does this concept only apply to the UK when it's far longer established than most other European countries

| The media would would delight in the Crusaders failing. Let's hope and pray they don't cos otherwise our game loses any credability it had with sponsors the media and the public. I can see the Guardian sub editors and other RL Hostile media delighting in writing the headlines now.

| Not a sovereign nation and proud of it. How backwards must a country be in the 21st century to still be subjects to feudal lords?
You worship the Saxe Coburg Gothas if you like. Charlie may have our wondrous country in his title, but outside of the a*r*s*e that chose our club badge (I use the term OUR in its loosest sense) we couldn't give a f*u*c*k about them.
Sadly though, I think our club will be gone before your monarchy

I'm sure many media quarters will take delight but they wont be the cause of the embarrasment the game will suffer. The RFL need only look in the mirror for the root cause of it.
All the media will be doing is 'We told you so', wearing their best flatcaps no doubt.

| Rumours and a few sources down here are saying it is a done deal.
I'll still try to make as many games as possible but don't know where this leaves us as a club or what our chances will be come the next round of Super League applications.
Gutted we have been moved from South Wales. The only plus point I can think is we will have a better ground to play out of.

It'll arguably make you more accessible for away fans from the north of England too. Cuts the travelling time from somewhere like Leeds by more than half compared to Bridgend.

| It's not a circus it's a point I wanted to make and to let Northern fans know that's all.
Looks like Leighton Samuels has pulled his money out partly or altogether and the Wrexham FC chairman is the guy who is best equipped to take over.
I think we could still give it a go next year. The sad thing for me is the journey is now 2.5 hours rather than 2.5 minutes from the local.
