Rovers Beat The Centurions To Go Fourth
Few would argue that the performance of the weekend in the Betfred Championship was the Bradford Bulls sensational away win at second place Toulouse Olympique XIII on Saturday evening. That said, the game of the round, on paper at least, was Featherstone Rovers game against the Leigh Centurions.
The sides came into the game in fourth and fifth places on the league ladder and Leigh knew coming into the game that a win would lift them into second spot in the league, level on points with third placed York City Knights. Featherstone also had everything to play for as a win would see them go above Leigh into fourth spot on points difference.
Everything suggested a full blooded classic encounter.

| Thank heavens that Featherstone defeated Leigh. The last thing that northern hemisphere rugby league needs is to have Leigh seriously challenging for a spot in Super League. Not that I think that Leigh would have a great chance to displace Toronto as the team to be promoted to Super League for 2020. But anything is possible, especially with on field referees adjudicating without the support of a video referee. So the further away from the top of the Championship Leigh is, the better.
The ideal challenge to Toronto would come from Toulouse, because the promotion of either Toronto or Toulouse would bring much needed geographical expansion to Super League. Hopefully Toronto will get promoted at the end of this season, and Toulouse will get promoted at the end of next season. Either Ottawa or New York would make an ideal third expansion team the year after Toulouse goes up.
Thank you Featherstone Rovers for helping to keep Leigh Centurions in check.

Oi you!
I support Leigh and would be the first to admit they aren't anywhere near good enough to get into SL. Toronto should walk into SL this year, unless they 'bottle' the play-offs - again!
However, Toulouse seem about as far from good enough for SL, as Leigh. They are going to have to improve on their recent form, or they could slip to 5th, or even 6th, at this rate.
As for today, congratulations to Featherstone. They were the better team and fully deserved their victory.

| I was tempted to type something bitchy...but considering the situations Leigh Centurions were in at the beginning of the year, it's a compliment from the wind up merchant that he's relieved we lost today.

Indeed......whether it's Wakefield or Leigh, the poster going by the name Jean seems to start 50% of his posts/threads with the sole intent of winding up fans of either.

| In my opinion Wakefield, Salford and Leigh do not belong in Super League. That is a legitimate point of view, even if you disagree with that. Obviously the fans of those three clubs will disagree with me and maybe even get angry with me for writing that. But that is their problem. I am not going to hide my expansionist opinions just to make the fans of Wakefield, Salford, and Leigh feel comfortable. What is the point of having a forum if you cannot express an opinion that is unpopular with some other people?

Speaking with Robert Elstone the other week at a London game he would agree with you. He would also add London to that list.
He's a fairly straight talking guy that's for sure. That said he didn't appear to have the answers to SL issues though. Described by one chairman I spoke with as lightweight.

interesting comment. But the fact that Elstone would add London to the list is rather disturbing. It suggests that the club chairman who described him as a lightweight is right on the money.
Oh, if only the very smart and capable Richard Lewis would return to running our game. Alas there is no chance of that.

| OK Sunny Jean, without mentioning expansion which isn’t working in London, why should London be in SL rather the three teams that are the recipients of your disgusting bile at an ever increasing frequency?

So all the hard work done by everyone behind the scenes to keep Salford going and who probably take home a meagre wage to pay their mortgage, the fantastic work by the head coach to have them challenging for the top5 and who’s got a job with Great Britain off the back of his work with Salford, and the players working hard (other than last week when they were totally bobbins) to try and get into the top5 who earn their living and pay their mortgages through the club... none of them deserve that do they not? All out of a job, all have to sell their houses, at the say so of some WUM who pines for pet expansion teams who couldn’t even stop little London getting promoted last season?
Teams are in Super League on merit. Simple as that. Nobody deserves or doesn’t deserve to be in SL for any other reason than winning or losing games of rugby. There’s no legitimacy in saying teams who won enough games to stay up over the years or ticked off enough boxes to keep their license for the years that was in place, don’t deserve to be in SL.
Just because Toronto might bring some more exposure to the sport or will have more home fans than Salford, doesn’t mean they deserve to be in SL and Salford don’t.
We’ve seen expansion fail miserably in the past. Stop pining for it to flush this league of the smaller clubs who have people working hard every day to keep their clubs going and earn themselves a living to have a roof over their heads, just so you can come on here like the prize WUM you are to lord it over fans who’ve been following these clubs for decades, week-in-week-out (even if it’s not many of them in some cases).
This will all happen naturally. Toronto may well get promoted this year and may just about stay up next year, but then and then only can anyone say they deserve to be in SL over any club they’ve replaced - which may not be Salford or Wakefield.
It’s alright for all the berks like you on this site sitting in the back room in your Mam’s gaff (where you probably don’t even pay for the internet connection, never mind contribute to the rent) in your vest and boxers eating packets of crisps and picking your nose while WUMming people in this site all day... you don’t actually think there are people who are working for these clubs, who aren’t playing or coaching staff, who’s work for these clubs keeps these clubs in business and pays for their homes.
“Don’t belong”...?! Wind your neck in!

And you’re another one. You’d have thought you’d have learnt from the embarrassment you had at the end of last season where you made such a fool of yourself you had to discontinue your last username and come back as someone else. and somehow you’re even worse than the last WUM account you had.
Get that giant Wire chip off your shoulder, it doesn’t suit you.
