ANY NRL coach will tell you that in the modern game you just can't pay $600,000-plus a season for a centre or a winger.
They simply don't touch the ball enough to justify taking up the biggest chunk of a club's salary cap.
Think Michael Jennings at Penrith and the fact the Panthers have struggled to offload their superstar centre to another club - or remember back to the complaints Souths fans had about Greg Inglis before Michael Maguire saw sense and moved his main man to fullback.
Which brings us to Israel Folau and what Ricky Stuart could be thinking as he crosses his fingers and toes and hopes for Folau's arrival at Parramatta.
Will Folau's return open the way for Stuart to do what he has been talking about for two years and make Jarryd Hayne a permanent five-eighth, which in turn opens the door for Folau to play fullback?

I think he would make a fantastic Fullback.

| Why spend through the nose for a player thats only interested in money? The nrl has no shortage of stars. No big drama.

| Well the NRL really struggled without him. Apart from the huge new sponsorship deal and ever improving viewing and attendance figures, but putting those minor things aside, yes they should crawl over broken glass and throw whatever vast sum of money it takes at this player who has always selflessly had the best interests of the game at heart.

| They allegedly offered him $3mill over 4 years! For a winger that's been out of the game for two years? Eels dodged a bullet IMO. Clearly he was lining up a union deal and the NRL delay over salary cap issue had little part to play. I'd be very surprised if his agent didn't have the French offer in his pocket the day izzy asked for a release from gws.

| Dodged a bullet, Falou has 'done a Gasnier', if he'd come back to NRL he'd have done nothing. Injuries were getting on top of him at Brisbane and he struggled by all accounts playing Aussie rules, so he hasn't played more than 20 games of NRL since 2008.
Bullet dodged, move on.

At least he's not a drama queen.

| If he fails in union he will have to take up boxing. He's certainly burned his bridges as regards playing Rugby League at a decent level ever again.

| Top player who I wanted to see back in the game. However he just played Parramatta and only cares about the coin so he can go and play and Union. The NRL doesnt need Izzy, there are plenty of stars!!

| Quality athlete, big name, youngest player to ever wear the green and gold of the kangaroos, or the maroon of Queensland.
Yeah, the game has really dodged a bullet.

| The problem with Israel Folau is that he is being manipulated by a money hungry manager-agent, who has the the megalomaniacal biblical name of Isaac Moses. (I bet that the only names under consideration for his children have been or will be Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Mary and Jesus). Folau seems like a naive young kid, though he talked to Ricky Stuart about sacking his manager, and Stuart reportedly told him not to at this stage, because it would complicate his situation too much.

| Thats not the problem with him at all. The problem with him is he knows he has a short career to maximise his earnings, and like any of us would he is taking the steps he needs to to do so. That goes totally against those in charge of RL, and somehow the fans that watch it, who have, for reasons yet to be determined, taken a standpoint that says players should be willing to sacrifice their earnings to play the game, that players should willingly earn less than they otherwise would, for the chance to entertain us, and not only that, they must do it with a smile on their face lest they be cast out of the game and referred to as greedy for the rest of their lives.
Israel Folau had the option of taking whichever pathway appealed most to him, he is in demand and a quality athlete like him is rare, and as such valuable. RL does as much as it can to make itself as unattractive as possible to players like him, then blames them when they want no part of it. Israel Folau isnt the problem, Rugby League is the problem.
